Work carefully around the boundary
Use a broad pass for the centre of the subject, then inspect the edges. Hair, transparent objects and reflections can make a selection more complicated than a solid shape. Step back to normal viewing size frequently so the image remains coherent rather than becoming a collection of perfectly painted fragments.
Keep an original and a finished copy
