Bank of Mom: a family ledger for money, time and agreed rewards

The original Bank of Mom tracked virtual family accounts, including allowances measured in money or minutes.

Bank of Mom was the family-account app linked by Apple ID 333259588 in the article preserved at this October 13, 2009 URL. It tracked virtual accounts rather than offering a bank account or payment service.

The unit did not have to be money

The historical description included deposits and withdrawals, but also allowances measured in minutes for activities such as television or games. Other agreed rewards could be recorded separately. That flexibility is the distinctive premise: the ledger represented arrangements within a family, not only a cash balance.

The advertised tools included multiple accounts, emailed transaction records and a configurable interest rate for each account. An account entry and the actual delivery of a reward remain separate events; recording a balance does not transfer funds or enforce an agreement.

The original article framed the app as an educational aid. This overview describes its record-keeping model without claiming that it produced a particular financial-learning outcome or recommending a specific allowance system.

Current availability and data compatibility are unverified. No transaction or interest calculation was tested. The original app identity is retained so this page is not confused with a real banking product or unrelated parental-control service.
