Flight Control: Firemint’s iPhone classic and the HD edition

Revisit Firemint’s Flight Control, understand the separate HD edition, and check the platform limits before looking for a download.

Official Flight Control HD artwork showing aircraft routes and an air traffic controller

Flight Control belongs to the early wave of games that made a simple interaction feel at home on a phone. If you arrived through our old 2009 article link, this guide identifies the game and points to current publisher information. The original iPhone game and the desktop HD edition should not be treated as interchangeable downloads.

Which Flight Control game is this?

The developer was Firemint. In its May 2011 acquisition announcement, Electronic Arts specifically named Flight Control and Real Racing among Firemint’s iPhone and iPad games. That record helps distinguish this title from unrelated flight simulators and airport-management games with similar names.

The idea: draw a route, then watch the traffic

In the official Flight Control HD listing, the player directs arriving aircraft to landing zones by drawing paths with a mouse or trackpad. The challenge comes from managing more traffic while keeping those routes from creating collisions. It is an arcade routing puzzle, rather than a cockpit simulator.

The HD edition lists nine maps, a fast-forward option, achievements and a Steam-specific Stunt map. Its listed release date is November 18, 2010. The artwork shown above comes from that HD listing, not from a newly released iPhone version.

Can you play it on a current device?

The Steam page is a desktop product listing, not an iPhone download. It explicitly warns that the game is incompatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina and later. Older system requirements printed on a store page also need to be read alongside the current Steam client requirements.

We have not verified a currently available iPhone edition for this guide. Before paying for any similarly named app, check its developer, platform and device requirements. A familiar title alone is not enough to identify the original game.

Finding a game with a similar appeal

Decide which part you want to revisit: drawing routes, managing increasing pressure, or chasing a personal score in short sessions. Those are more useful comparison points than an aircraft icon. Our iPhone games guide and App Store rankings can help you explore current options.
