Marketing Forecast: a mobile research reader, not a prediction engine

What Ad-ology’s early iPhone app delivered and how to evaluate a marketing statistic before building a decision around it.

Identify the original product

The historical Marketing Forecast app was connected with Ad-ology Research. Contemporary reporting in Marketing Dive describes a stream of marketing information, research, economic trends, and related updates. The name did not mean the phone could reliably predict an individual company’s future sales.

Read the study behind the headline

A mobile research feed is useful for noticing a development, but a brief summary leaves questions unanswered. Before using a statistic, identify who was surveyed, when the fieldwork happened, what geography it covers, and how the question was worded. Separate what respondents said they intended to do from measured purchasing behavior.

Save the original report link with the figure. A screenshot of a headline alone is a weak research note because it can lose the sample definition, methodology, and publication date.

Turn a trend into a testable question

Suppose a report suggests interest in a shopping channel. The useful next question is whether your own audience uses that channel for the product you offer. Write down the hypothesis, the behavior you would measure, and the period over which you will compare results. Keep broad industry context separate from your own observations.

Do not compare two percentages until you know whether their denominators match. A share of respondents, a share of revenue, and a growth rate may all be percentages while describing different things.

What is verified today

This page identifies the legacy app through historical coverage; it does not confirm that the 2009 binary or service remains supported. For a current research reader, prioritize traceable sources, dates, exportable notes, and access to the underlying material. The lasting benefit is a better route to evidence, rather than a confident-looking forecast on a small screen.
