VR+ was SHAPE Services’ voice-recording and sharing product for iPhone and iPod touch. This restored January 13, 2009 entry concerns that app, rather than a modern virtual-reality recorder suggested by the same initials.
Recording was only the first step
SHAPE’s archived iPhone product page describes recording notes, lectures and interviews, choosing recording quality, and sending audio by email in MP3 format. It also advertises voice-activity detection to omit silence, sharing to several social networks, and an online recording archive.
That capture is from January 2010, a year after this article’s original date. It documents the product’s later feature set; it does not prove that every listed function existed in the first 2009 version. The developer’s own download link identifies Apple app ID 299049482.
Decide what you need to preserve
For any recorder, think about the job after the recording. A quick reminder may need only a clear title and easy playback. An interview may also require an exported file, a separate backup and enough context to identify the session later.
Silence removal is a trade-off rather than an automatic improvement. A shorter recording may be easier to browse, while pauses may matter when the purpose is to preserve the timing of a conversation. Likewise, smaller files are easier to send, but the recording still has to be understandable to its intended listener. These are workflow considerations, not test results for VR+.
Current status and alternatives
The original U.S. Apple address did not provide an active listing during this restoration, so current VR+ availability and compatibility are unverified. Its old social integrations and online archive should not be assumed to remain operational.
For a current baseline, Apple documents sharing recordings from Voice Memos through options such as AirDrop, Mail and Messages. Check the exported format against the recipient’s needs rather than assuming every recording workflow produces MP3.
