Clip2Mobile addressed a familiar problem: you find a phone number, address or useful link on your computer, but need it on your iPhone. Our October 1, 2008 listing described a service for transferring these small information clips from a PC to the phone. Readers reached it through Safari at clip2mobile.net.
From a desktop note to a useful action
The provider’s homepage, archived that same day, described four tasks: sending notes to the phone, adding contacts from a desktop, initiating calls, and transferring locations or web addresses. A sign-in form provided access to the service.
The appeal was practical: prepare information with a computer’s keyboard, then use it where it was needed. A location found while planning a trip or a number copied from a website could make the move from desktop research to a pocket-sized device.
An early iPhone utility
The original page classified Clip2Mobile as a web app in tools and utilities. It fits the approach Apple outlined in its 2007 web-app announcement, which described browser applications connecting to phone calls, email and Google Maps. Small services could build around those existing phone capabilities.
