iActu appears in 2007 iPhon.fr coverage as an iPhone web application. A May 2008 first-person account also discusses it among browser-based iPhone tools. These records place the name in the period before native App Store downloads became the normal starting point for discovery.
Why a browser reader made sense
A compact news interface addresses a simple problem: many publications, little screen space, and limited attention. A useful design lets a reader recognize the source, scan a headline, and choose whether to open the full article. That is different from assuming every headline deserves a notification.
The historical interest of iActu is the attempt to make an existing web habit more comfortable on a phone. It should not be judged solely against a much later app category with years of platform improvements.
Build a readable news routine
When choosing a news reader today, start with the sources you want to follow rather than the number of feeds it advertises. Group subjects you actively need to track and keep an easy route to the originating publication. Save a story with its date and source so it remains understandable later.
If several outlets repeat the same announcement, read the underlying announcement as well. Repetition across feeds is not the same thing as independent confirmation.
What the legacy name does not prove
