I have been waiting for this, the only problem is there is about a 2 second delay in speaking and the other party hearing your voice. I tried it with my wife in the same room… Not practical for my uses with that.

Added by Fritz Vogt on September 9th, 2007 at 10:42 pm

I can call from my iphone to a landline using skype but the person on the other end cannot hear me and I cannot hear them.

Added by Jane on September 10th, 2007 at 4:21 am

The cause of delay is that you make calls from the web service to you landlines contacts. While calling to landlines numbers via desktop skype client I also have a delay in speaking. This is not the lack of the web service.

I use beta version of this app. I’m interested in commersial version. When will it be available? How much will it cost? I want to buy it.

Added by Helen on September 10th, 2007 at 4:59 am

Scott, the same delay would occur if you were calling from the native Skype client on your PC I think because IM+ for Skype is based on Skype API. Try it.

Added by tiff on September 13th, 2007 at 7:42 pm

if i go to the website via computer i can log in with my user name ect and it works, but when i try and do it via iphone it tells me that my information is incorrect- but it is the exact same info (i’ve redone it serveral times to make sure). any thoughts?

It is only a matter of time before Skyp comes out with their own program for the iPhone, just as they have for the Windows Smartphones. But until then, this seems to be the best way to use SkypeOut on the iPhone.

Added by harry on October 20th, 2007 at 3:42 pm

too expensive, too flaky. Its MUCH easier to buy 1000 minutes for $5 on a cheap international calling card and just speak via the phone.
Skype has its uses - this aint one of them.
$5 a month - what for? I already have to pay Skype - to try to monetize a service on top of a service that already has monetizing problems isnt smart.

Added by Gothy on October 22nd, 2007 at 8:51 am

Franz, I’m not sure if mobile operators will allow software like native Skype client on iPhone. I think 3rd patry software catalog will be managed by Apple and Apple’s partners like AT&T, T-Mobile and others. I think they will not approve any voip software on iPhone

Added by SHAPE Services on October 22nd, 2007 at 6:58 pm

harry, IM+ for Skype allows to stay connected to Skype network, see your contacts online, chat easily and without any additional charges. Also if you call abroad, you can do it in cost-saving way using SkypeOut.

Added by Ivan on October 26th, 2007 at 1:47 pm

From USA I call direct on my iphone to western europe and it cost me $0.049 per minute. Billed in 6 second increment, not like any other company billing you in minute increment. No setup fee, no contract, no obligation and so on. I use that company for over 4 years now and I am very happy with them. land line quality. That’s cheaper than skype. Skype will be helpful only while traveling and with good hot spot. Other wise, does not make sense, at least to me.

Added by Freya on October 29th, 2007 at 5:37 pm

Ivan, Skype is not only a cheap calling. It is a kind of social network also…

Added by Antoine on November 3rd, 2007 at 11:55 pm

doesn’t work for me,same problem as Fritz Vogt… can only chat

Added by SHAPE Services on November 10th, 2007 at 4:32 pm

Let me clarify how IM+ for Skype works.
When you make a call both the contact person and you will get the call.
This is because when you use IM+ for Skype you are actually making two calls:
one – to Skype contact on PC and another – to your callback number.

Added by SHAPE Services on November 10th, 2007 at 4:34 pm

When connection is established you will receive a callback (incoming call) to your phone number.

If you do not receive a callback, there could be two reasons:
1) You do not have SkypeOut credits or plan. SkypeOut credits or plan are required for all incoming and outgoing calls in IM+ for Skype.
2) You have entered a wrong phone number in IM+ for Skype login page.
Please make sure that correct country or region is selected.
Also please check if your phone number includes city or mobile provider code.

Added by Mircea on November 15th, 2007 at 3:30 pm

I tried to use skype on my Iphone and it did not work. I waited over 2 min and no ring. Still got charged for the international phone call. I also text messaged myself and did not showed up on my computer (other skype account). I hope it gets better.

Added by SHAPE Services on November 16th, 2007 at 11:18 am

Mircea, if you do not receive a callback, most likely you have entered a wrong phone number in IM+ for Skype login page.
Please make sure that correct country or region is selected and your phone number includes mobile provider code.

As for problems with chat, please send a request to support team: http://www.shapeservices.com/en/support/support.php?form=skype_iphone

It sounds like I’ll be using Skyp Out credits even if I call Skype users on PC. But what if I have Skype unlimited calling within US and I call Skype user to their computer. Is this call going to be free?

Added by SHAPE Services on November 27th, 2007 at 11:34 am

Gintas, in this case SkypeOut calls within US and Canada will be free.

When you are abroad you pay as roaming fare, that means that its expensive calling with IM+ for Skype than calling normaly, thats isn´t skype. In spite of the web, yes, is very important where you are.

Added by SHAPE Services on December 18th, 2007 at 2:48 pm

JR, when you make a call using IM+ for Skype, you will always need a callback number.

Added by SHAPE Services on December 18th, 2007 at 2:50 pm

Jose Ram, you can find more information how to save on calls in roaming at: http://www.shapeservices.com/en/products/details.php?product=skype&platform=iphone&page=saveim

Only 1 of my contacts appears online when I use the iphone. when I check my computer over 20 appear as online. Does anyone have the same problem. :) . :) . :)

Added by SHAPE Services on December 20th, 2007 at 12:10 pm

Mauritius, unfortunately this issue is out of our scope. It might happen with a usual Skype user also.
The problem is not related to API, but to the presence information distribution in the Skype p2p cloud.
You can find out some additional info on this at: https://developer.skype.com/jira/browse/SPA-317

However, our developers are trying to find a workaround to cover the inconvenience.

Added by nazim on January 30th, 2008 at 1:53 am

I am a happy customer. Used it during my trip to NY and saved a ton on oversea’s phone calls. You can set it up to callback on any landline number. Of course it helps if you are using fast wifi conections as opposed to Edge but NY is full of open wifi

does IM+ support skypepro yet I live in canada and don’t see the convenience if it only supports skypepro in germany

Added by Alexandro on January 30th, 2008 at 6:08 pm

I have used it in Canada with my Skype Pro Unlimited calls + my cell phone unlimited incoming calls package. The idea of use my Skype to start a call to my friend with this web interface was great, however it consumes too much bandwith and it transfered more than 500KB just to start one call. It should use a small amount of data to start the call and stop it once the iphone version returns the call to your cell phone through GSM connection.

Added by Maj on February 4th, 2008 at 8:33 am

The contact list I get in my iPhone is not the same one I have in my skype account in Disk top I did not get the compleat contact list and I got contacts that are not in my orignal list . Also I don\’t see the online contact form the offline ones because it dose show the status of the contacts if they are online or offline.

Some of my friends use multiple mobile numbers. They are in my Skype contacts. When I use IM+ I can’t see which mobilphone number will be used and I can’t choose the number I want. Is there any suggestion of how to solve this?

are you people out of your mind? this way of calling is the most expensive you can ever get! it bills your skype acount with a mobile phone calling rate! thats £1 (2$) per 5 mins! and don’t give me that coocoo about social networking via skype! com’on now!

Added by jchimpo on February 16th, 2008 at 10:52 pm

I’m having a really hard time using this program. Is it imperitive that I have a skype acc before trying im+ for skype? If so, then why did it allow me to pay 29.95 for the service? I was under the impression that I could set the whole thing up from my iPhone as a first time user.

IM+ is perfect for my iPod Touch. I do not want a “smart” mobile. I like my touch and when I travel I will & do just IM+ phone2phone. Frankly audio quality may be better than SkypePC2Phone. Anyway I am adding my Contacts to Skype so they are ready when I am.

Added by Cheyne on March 17th, 2008 at 9:29 pm

so when i use this IM+ with my iphone to text my skype buddies do i get charged texting messages from my carrier? Or does it not use my att texting service at all?

Added by SHAPE Services on March 20th, 2008 at 5:27 am

Sending text messages via IM+ for Skype is free. You pay only for Internet traffic while using a web app. If you have an unlimited tariff plan for there will not be additional charges for GPRS traffic

Added by nidia on March 24th, 2008 at 12:43 pm

just another way of getting you to part of your money. Do you folks use skype for important calls? . Why pay for chatting about nothing? I am amazed to see how much we are willing to pay to try technology.

SSL actually transmits the DES key’s (or whatever symmetric keys) encrypted using public/private key schemas. The server doesnt know the key, unless they expend the resources to crack the RSA encryption ont he keys (which isnt a small task).

Added by Rich on March 31st, 2008 at 12:59 pm

The SHAPE package should work on the Ipod-Touch, in which case a Skype Pro subscription should cost only the applicable Skype credits for any call placed, as it would from any internet device. Correct?
I have wireless thru work, so this arrangement would be a great supplement as a second line with VM and for wi-fi areas out of cell range - of which there are actually many around here. Make sense?

a couple of questions.
-can i talk iphone to pc, opposed to texting?
-if i get a wifi signal, or have unlimited data plan will it cost me any money?
-last, is the application free?

Is this site down now? Just a search page for me on my iphone.

Added by kostas on April 18th, 2008 at 5:22 pm

how many times shall we say this: this software is USELESS. In order to make a call it charges your skype account more money that your mobile provider would charge you. That is because it uses your skype credits to CALL YOU BACK on your mobile phone. It is not free and it is actually the most EXPENSIVE way to make a call!

Added by SHAPE Services on April 21st, 2008 at 1:27 am

You are able to receive and make the calls to any contact in your Skype contact list.

IM+ for Skype uses SkypeOut to transfer voice data over this wireless network, which ends up being rather cost-efficient if compared to Voice over IP (VoIP).
When you make a call both the contact person and you will get the call. This is because when you use IM+ for Skype you are actually making two calls: one - to contact and another - to your callback number. As you receive an incoming call to your callback phone you will be charged for it. The call is possible due to Skype credit on your SkypeOut account.
If you are charged for the incoming calls by your wireless carrier then there will be additional fee for the incoming call but if you are on unlimited tariff plan, there will not be additional charges for GPRS traffic.

You can always try IM+ for Skype in 10-day full-functional trial mode. Just visit s4iphone.com (using Safari Browser) on your iphone and login in to Skype with your existing Skype account.

for using skype to call another wireless phone from the iphone safari iphone, does it use wireless minutes when the skype redirects the phone call back to me??

Added by SHAPE Services on April 23rd, 2008 at 1:29 am

As you receive the incoming call and if you are charged for it by your wireless carrier then there will be the fee for the incoming call.
If you are on unlimited tariff plan, there will not be additional charges for GPRS traffic.

Please note that you can always receive the callback to the closest landline. Just specify its number as the callback in the Call menu and then all your calls will be redirected to the specified phone number.

I dont have an iphone number (just use my iphone as an expensive ipod touch), and so I got robbed by this company. re routing calls throug someone elses network, requiring them to have a NORMAL PHONE, IS NOT VOIP. F@CKING GARBAGE! DO NOT BUY!!!! I only spent 5$ on it and i still feel like i got robbed!
