Dear Cos!
If IM+ for Skype is closed (not in background mode)on your iPhone, than it will not ring, your call is not used as a call back.
Thanks for your feedback.
Sincerely,
SHAPE Services
Question: with this app, if someone is calling your Skype account, does the phone ring even if the application is not opened?
So lets say the phone is in my pocket, locked does the phone ring still, does it know to stay connected on Skype and available for calls?
Dear Sandor!
Firstly, please let me outline how IM+ for Skype works.
When you make a call both the contact person and you will get the call.
This is because when you use IM+ for Skype you are actually making two calls:
one – to your Skype contact and another – to your callback number.
Once connection is established you receive a callback to your phone number.
Please specify, if you are using a landline number or a mobile phone number as a call back.
Please note, that Unlimited Europe plan allows you to call landline numbers for free, but not mobile numbers.
To save more you can enter any landline number (it can be the phone number of a friend you came to visit, or even a phone number of a local restaurant) in the field “Your phone number with area code” in IM+ for Skype and the call will be forwarded to the number you indicate.
Yours truly,
SHAPE Services
Hi everybody !
i bought this im+ for skype application for my iphone a few days ago, and there is something i dont really understand.. i bought also unlimited europe credit (bout 4 euro/month) which i can use on my PC with Skype ( i can call landlines even in the Netherlands for free), but it doesn’t work on my iphone with your app. what could be the reason for that ?? please help me!
Hi,once this application is installed, can I use skype on the iphone to chat with other skype contacts without any extra payment, and can they also call me free,ie skype to skype free,Thanks
as the 2nd gen ipod touch can use a mic re. ear phones and mic from apple store why do you have to have a call back number on skype and not on fringe thanks
Dear Stuart!
Please visit this page from your iPhone for more detailed information about IM+ for Skype application.
Thank you and the best regards.

why do i get charged when i use skype on my iphone through im+ ?? i have paid for a lifetime subscription but not sure why if i get charged for phone calls
hello, i am from Colombia and i have an iphone 3G. i also have skype on mi laptob, can i use this apliccation as well in my iphone as in my computer????
When you use this program, have your call back number your cell phone number. If you have unlimited mobile to mobile minutes your airtime will not be charged.
Ok - potentially a dumb question here, but the call back number is the iPhone I’m call FROM, what do I do when it rings? Very confusing. Do I answer it and put that call on hold, then pick up the other line - the one I’m actually trying to call?
Be very helpful if there were some instructions on your site somewhere that actually talk you through HOW you make a call to a phone when your call back number is your own phone (ie: not everyone has a landline within close proximately)..
Consuelo, the license you have purchased is tied up to your Skype name. To activate your license please sign in to s4iphone.com. When the sign in is successful, please sign out. Your license will be registered. Then each time you want to use IM+ for Skype on your iPhone, just enter s4iphone.com. Please note you are required to have an Internet connection to use IM+ for Skype.
Tima, if the call will be to the USA mobile and the callback will be forwarded to the USA landline, the USA person will receive two calls, you will receive none. You won’t be able to speak this way. The callback is made for you to be connected to your USA person. Imagine this as a conference call, firstly your contact is invited by receiving a call to the USA mobile, secondly you are invited by receiving a call to the UK landline. The conference is settled, you can talk.
I already bought the license to use IM for Skype in my Iphone. When I am going to use it in my Iphone and after put the s4iphone.com . . . I can not see nothing!!! What I have to do to use this aplication in correct way?
I follow all instructions but nothing.
thanks
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate your response, but what if I told them accept the call on there USA mobile while I ring there land line. So the call back will be with them on there USA mobile while i will speak to them on the land line. Does that make sense?
Tima, in case you set up a USA mobile as a callback, you won’t be able to pick it up as you are in the UK. The callback number must be somewhere near you, so you can pick it up and talk with your contact. Maybe you can take a look at Skype World Unlimited plan. You can learn more about Skype subscriptions at the official Skype web site.
Thanks for the response ‘Shape Services’. But further to your response, I do not have a USA/Canada mobile, so I will need to be called back to a UK mobile/land line. Could I not do something cheeky like dial my contact in the USA (on a landline) and use their mobile number (as the callback number). Of which I would not get charged for, as this would be part of my skype subscription allowance? I appreciate this is a twisted approach, but just thinking aloud whether this would work?
Ultimately, I want to pay a fixed subscription with Skype and not incur any further charges per my usage. Please let me know if this possible…thanks very much.
Andy, IM+ for Skype cannot be downloaded as it runs as a web service in your Safari browser. Please denote where you downloaded the application and what is the full name of it.
Dear Tima, as you probably know your call with IM+ for Skype actually includes two calls - to your contact in the USA/Canada and the callback to your number. If you have Unlimited USA and Canada plan you will not be charged for a connection fee, nor for the fee for the first part of the call, meaning to your contact in the USA/Canada.
Further, it depends where to forward your callback: USA or Canada mobile number, UK mobile number or UK landline.
1)If you forward a callback to your USA or Canada mobile - you will not be charged with SkypeOut credits as your plan includes USA/Canada mobiles, but you will be charged by your carrier according to roaming rates as you are using USA/Canadian mobile in the UK.
2) If you forward a callback to your UK mobile - you will be charged with SkypeOut rates as this number is not covered by your Skype plan.
3) If you forward a callback to a UK landline number - you will be charged with SkypeOut rates as this number is not covered by your Skype plan, but the rates are much lower than for mobiles, so I would recommend you to forward your callback to any UK landline (home, office) to reduce the charges.
You can find SkypeOut rates here http://www.skype.com/intl/en/prices/callrates/
I have downloaded Skype for Iphone and installed it to my phone but when I try to enter my name and pass it says they are wrong. They are not wrong so what is going on here.
Its pointless to have the app if it wont work.
Thx
Hi, I am not entirely sure I have understood how IM+ works with Skype. I have a skype account of which I have subscribed to the ‘Unlimited USA and Canada’ plan (on skype). Would IM+ allow me to ring a land line or mobile number for no further cost. Would I be charged any connection fee (I am based within the UK on the 02 network); if so what would that be? Is there going to be a call back charge and again how much would that be? Thanks very much
Hello Ivann, IM+ for Skype works on the iPhone 3G. Please denote if you can chat with your contacts. Also please make a call to a test account echo123, it must be in your contact list by default. You can also check the callback number you are entering. It must be typed in the international format (+XX-XXX-XXX-XXXX).
Hi, I’m having issues establishing a call via s4iphone.com… I go to the website on my iphone 3G, log in, and then when I try to make a call I provide the call back number, click “Call” and all i get is a status saying “waiting for callback” or “calling” (most of the time it says “calling”)…. after a few seconds i get “call finished”. I do have sufficient skypeOut credit. Does anyone know how to solve this issue?? Does s4iphone.com works for iphone 3G? Thank you in advance for your help!!!
iPhone App, you do not have to launch a usual Skype or any other service to use IM+ for Skype. All you need is a registered Skype account, just point your Safari browser to http://s4iphone.com, login and that’s all.
Carlos, SkypeOut is required for any incoming and outgoing calls. Please note if you ar charger for incoming call by your carrier or your airtime minutes are limited, the same charges will apply as you actually receive a callback to your iPhone phone number.
We haven’t tryied this exact scenario, because our testing team doesn’t have a belkin desktop. Still we are aware about the work of our application and I already explained the way it works.
The application is very useful when you are abroad even if you do not have a roaming. You can initiate a call from your iPhone with the Wi-Fi, set a callback number to a landline number that you have nearby and you will only be charged according SkypeOut rates which is very cost-effective. You will receive a callback to the landline number you specified. The same way you can receive calls: launch IM+ for Skype on your iPhone in the Wi-Fi zone, set a callback number to a landline number that you have nearby and receive any Skype call from your contacts to that landline number. As an alternative you can set up a callback as a local mobile number of the country you are in, the SkypeOut rates are usually a little higher for mobiles.
Shape: I’m calling FROM belkin internet desktop skype TO my username in IM+ skype. In this case i dont think i need skypeout because i’m calling from desktop. please let me know if my understand is incorrect. please let me know if u have tried this scenario before.
also i have second question, in case i bring the iphone outside USA where no roaming is available –and only wifi is available– is this application useful considering that i’ll make a callback (through regular cellular) ? please let me know too.
Hello Rick, yes, you are charged for two calls according to SkypeOut rates.
If you are not subscribed for any Skype plan and you are in the USA the charges for the (1) case would be:
connection fee (0.039 USD) + Skype call rate for USA number of the opposite person (0.021 USD) + Skype call rate for your USA number (0.021 USD) = 0.081 USD per minute.
The charges for the (2) case would be:
connection fee (0.039 USD) + no charge for the call to a Skype name on the desktop Skype + Skype call rate for your USA number (0.021 USD) = 0.06 USD per minute.
Please note the rate for USA Alaska is 0.056 USD per minute.
If your friend has a SkypeIn number (Online number) the charges will be according to the services offered for SkypeIn. SkypeIn is not supported for IM+ for Skype on your iPhone.
Skype to Skype calls are not free if a mobile phone is involved with a 3rd party mobile applications such as IM+ for Skype.
Skype to Skype calls are free if you are calling from your Skype name on your PC to another Skype name on friend’s PC.
Dear Carlos, do you have enough SkypeOut credits on your Skype account? have you entered a correct callback number? Does your iPhone has phone service?
ML, there might be several reasons for this problem. Firstly, please launch Skype on your PC and change your password to something simple as 12345. Then logout and login to IM+ for Skype with a new password. If that works, you can change your password but please use only letters and digits without any special simbols. Also please check your connection level. Wi-Fi is not obligatory, you can use any of the following Internet/Web GPRS, 3G, CDMA, UMTS connection type. There might also be a reason of temporary connection problem on the Skype server, but that happens rarely and usually fixed within several hours so you can just relogin later.
Shape Services - Can you help me - I am not yet clear about the charges.
When I initiate a call - I am actually making 2 calls - one to the opposite person and other to my callback number. In this case - do I get charged for both the calls - i.e. Skype charges for incoming and outgoing call ? It would be great if you can explain using an example–
(1) how much would I be charged when I initiate a call from my Iphone - I am calling a US - landline/cellphone and callback is my landline number?
(2) how much would I be charged when I initiate a call from my Iphone - I am calling a PC and callback is my landline number?
Finally, you mentioned in one of your posts - “Also Skype to Skype calls will not be free since you are using SkypeOut services when you are on mobile” whereas in some other post I read that Skype to Skype calls are free. Could you elaborate on this.
When would Skype to Skype calls be free .. and when would they be charged.
Would it be free when both outgoing and callback numbers are Skype account number on PC ?
i can’t sign in!! i type in my username, password etc.. but then it goes to a pays that says connecting and then suddenly says “disconnected” connection failed, try to reconnect.. why does it do that?? do you have to be using wifi to access this app??? somebody please help this is driving me insane..
maricel, please make sure you have enough SkypeOut Credits on your account. They are required to make and receive calls with IM+ for Skype. Also please check the callback number on the login page, it must be valid and entered in the international format (+XX-XXX-XXX-XXXX), you will receive an incoming call on this number.
Hello Aniya, we appreciate your feedback. We are planning to make a native application IM+ for Skype for iPhone, unfortunately no time-frames available. BTW, connection stability depends on the connection level that you have on your iPhone (the Wi-Fi available or mobile network).
Enrique, you cannot speak with your iPod Touch of course, it doesn’t have a microphone. You can set any landline or mobile number as a callback number on the login page. You will receive an incoming call to that number and will be able to communicate.
Shah, If you are in Germany and using your USA mobile with IM+ for Skype you will be calling to US numbers for free. At the same time you will be receiving a callback (this is the way IM+ for Skype works), this incoming call will be considered as a roaming call, so we advise you to set a German number as a callback. This way you will pay only SkypeOut destination rate to German number. There is no connection fee when you are making calls covered by your subscription. Connection fee is charged when you do not have a subscription for Skype.
It’s such a pity this app is not native for the iPhone, I would have then used the chat feature as I did for my Blackberry (and this was free too). Hope something comes out in the near future otherwise it’s not worth it especially what with it being web based, real shame!
p.s I agree with this user…
Are you planning on releasing a native application for the iPhone 3G, instead of this web one? I like keeping it on at all times, but it constantly times out and logs me out. I’ve used a few of your products on different platforms and still am (WM, S60), and they are great, but the web application just doesn’t cut it. It is more expensive and worse than the ones for the other platforms. You would think now that the SDK is available you would develop a non-web version, hopefully one that could run in the background.
I am not really clear on why my SkypeOut plan for Unlimited US and Canada will not work in Germany. If I am looged on the computer and using Skpye I would assume that I would be able to use the program to call landlines and cellphones in US with using my SkypeOut credits. Therefore if I were to make a call to US, am I still using my SkyeOut credits for the call in US and the cellphone I have in Germany? I would think that the credits would only be used to make the callback to my cellphone in germany, and not for the US call. And what sort of connection fee am I going to be charged? And what about other skpye users in US, if I call them would I be charged SkypeOut credits if I enter my german cellphone number as my call back number?
Hello Shah, SkypeIn is not supported in IM+ for Skype for iPhone at the moment. It is in our roadmap for future improvements. That means that every call you make (or receive) will be considered as a roaming call by your carrier. Unlimited SkypeOut plan for US and Canada won’t work when you are in Germany. There is an unlimited plan for Germany but it works for calls within Germany (Look on the official Skype site for this).
You can enter a German landline number as a callback to call to US, SkypeOut rates will apply to the call you initiate (Germany - USA) and for the callback (USA – Germany landline) plus some small connection and data fee (or no data fee if you have unlimited data).
As of right now I have a Unlimited SkypeOut plan for US and Canada which includes landlines and cellphones. And I also have a SkypeIn number which a local number. I will be moving to germany soon and plan on getting an Iphone with T-Mobile, which includes unlimited data and unlimited incoming calling.
So if I wanted to call a landline or a cellphone in US from Geramny…can i use my SkypeIn number as my callback number so I don’t get charged additional SkypeOut minutes. Or can i just enter my german cellphone number which has unlimited incoming and not be charged any SkypeOut credits. Also I am not aware of any Skpye plans that have unlimited calling to cellphones in germany so I don’t think i would be able to get a german SkypeIn number and use that as my callback number.
So my question would be could I just pay for the Unlimited SkypeOut for US and Canada, pay for a US SkypeIn number, and use my Iphone in germany to make calls and not be charged additional SkypeOut minutes?
Dear Pablo, firstly IM+ for Skype is not a native application for iPhone so you couldn’t download it, you can just enter the site and sign in through Safari browser.
If you do not hear anything, please make sure that you have entered a correct callback number on the login page. You should have recieved an incoming call to that number.
Also please check if you have enough SkypeOut credits on your account as any call with IM+ for Skype requires SkypeOut credits.
Afterdownloading IM+ for Skype for my 3G, and using my regular Skype sign-in, I do not get any volume or sense that a number has been dialed. What have I missed?
Luke, you can use iPod Touch for viewing your Skype contact list and initiating a call. For receiving a call you would require some phone. It can your mobile or any landline number you have nearby. Just start the call on the iPod Touch and pick up the phone that you have specified on the login page.
If the site is not loading, please check your connection.
Chris, you cannot download IM+ for Skype since it is a web application, not native. Instead you can use it by entering s4iphone.com in your Safari browser.
Dear Earl, with IM+ for Skype, minimal data traffic is involved when you send a voice or a text. On average 5Kb of traffic per hour is used when you stay online in IM+ for Skype and send or receive messages. The amount of traffic will depend on the length of your contact list and the frequency with which your Skype contacts get online/offline. If you are on the unlimited tariff plan, there will be no additional charges for GPRS traffic.
There soon will be a release of Mobiola Headset for Skype. This might suit you It turns your mobile to a headset to comunicate with Skype users.
If you would like to use your iPod only, may be you should ask Apple to make some headset))
mleighb, the text option is free! you do not pay for the messages or whatever, just a small traffic usage, really small. The only fee is for the app, which lets you using Skype services (like text messages) on your iPhone. For the issue with using airtime minutes - as I already mentioned you can use any landline as a callback, no minutes from your carrier will be used.
Hi Lex, let me mention that IM+ for Skype is based on SkypeOut because of using less traffic and offering more voice communication quality comparing to VoIP. You can learn more at http://shapeservices.com/en/faq/sections/imskype.php?platform=bb#08 I totally understand that you do not wish to subscribe for a carrier, just use the Internet connection for making calls. You really lose with the voice quality, but if that’s ok with you… what we offer is a good quality for the majority of people who have or have not subscribed for the carrier, who travel, or just don’t sit at the office all the time, who can receive a callback for nothing or at a low fee and many others who find IM+ for Skype satisfying their needs.
I like this APP but only wanted to “text” people on my skype list that don’t have a cell phone IM. The texting feature should be free like I use on my PC. Seriously I won’t PAY for this APP on my iphone and it’s only letting me use the AI for a limited time. boo.

Thanks for your reply. Basically , what I want is to use an unsubscribed jailbroken iphone as a web browser in a wifi hotspot so I can check my email without carrying a computer around. I also want to use the iphone as a skype phone thru voip. I do not want to subscribe to ATT or any phone company for the minutes. I do not want to need another phone nearby to get the call. It seems like the iphone has the best mobile browser available in a convienent size and that there will be many first generation iphones for sale on ebay. as the americans get excited about the newly available 3g service( that europeans have had forever! ) I would definitely pay for a program that gives me what I want.: skype on an unsubscribed iphone with no need for a second phone.
Dear Lex, you are right, in the discribed situation you will receive a callback to your home number, but let me ask you how would you pick up the phone if you are in the coffee shop? I would recommend you set up as a callback some number you have nearby, for example a phone number of a coffee shop. Also let me outline one demonstative example of how IM+ for Skype callback can be useful. If you are in a hotel, using your iPod with a Wi-Fi hotspot in the hotel and launching IM+ for Skype. You can use your room phone number for the callback. You will initiate a call from your iPod, receive a call to your room phone number, which will let you easily communicate with your Skype contacts.

re above quote
“”"”When you make a call both the contact person and you will get the call. This is because when you use IM+ for Skype you are actually making two calls: one - to contact and another - to your callback number. The conversation will begin after your contact accepts the call and you accept the callback.”"”"
does this mean :
if I use as a callback number a landline in my house
and If I am at a wifi hotspot in a coffee shop around the corner
and if I try to make an outgoing call with your shape program from my ipod thru the wifi, at the coffee shop
and if my ipod has no subscription to a phone company
I have to answer the landline at the house and “accept” the call before my call from the coffee shop goes thru?????
thanks for the reply ….good to hear your on top of it. I’ll look forward to seeing the fix. It helps in my travels to be able to communicate with my international contacts via text chat. thanks again.
Dear Mark, your license was registered automatically. You do not have to enter it anywhere. We are aware of the issue with the contact list, we are fixing it at the moment, so it will be ok soon. Please except our appologies for the inconvenience.
i tried to register after paying my 29.95. I signed in using the appropriate user and pw. i was able to connect however my contact list failed to surface and i was not asked for the license number which i thought would be required to enter. Whats the solution to getting my contact list to appear ? Have i logged on properly?
further to my last post. I seem to be able to make a voice call ok ….and the message says ” connected - loading contact list” of course this never actually happens.
Dear mrlbalint, IM+ for Skype is not a free service. It has a free 10-day trial, but after that you require a license to use it. You can subscribe for monthly subscription or purchase a life time license. Please note: you are not using Skype (as a desktop application), this is another service that is based on Skype functionality. In that case while using IM+ for Skype you do not need your Skype running on the desktop. Also Skype to Skype calls will not be free since you are using SkypeOut services when you are on mobile. Each call be will charged according to SkypeOut rates, which are very low btw. Don’t forget to set a call back number as a landline to reduce charges for the incoming calls from your carrier.
One more thing, text chatting doesn’t require SkypeOut with IM+ for Skype, you will only be charged for data transfered by your carrier.
Glenn! If you paid for this application then you made a mistake somewhere. This app. is free on both pc and Iphone. You only need a Skype pro account and a valid mobile number in order to make and receive calls while on the move. Obviously you also need to be logged in to the application. This app is a kinda wap app therefore you need the mobile number to be set on your mobile Skype. Don’t forget the good coverage of 3G or wi-fi. You can call pcs and ordinary phones as well as you can receive calls from them. Skype to Skype calls are free of charge even if you are on mobile.
Hello Jackson,
Thanks a lot for this clear and detailed information! As to your question, you can make (initiate) a call with IM+ for Skype from your iPhone via Wi-Fi. Still you need a callback number to receive an incoming call, because when you make a call with IM+ for Skype, you are actually making to calls: one - to your Skype friend, another - to your callback number. If your iPhone has a phone number (a calling plan), you can use it, but you might be charged for incoming minutes if that applies by your carrier plan. You can forward a call to some landline nearby or a cell that isn’t charged for incoming calls.
Dear Fred,
You will be charged for the incoming call by your carrier, even if it is a call through IM+ for Skype. To reduce charges you can forward a call to some landline nearby or a cell that isn’t charged for incoming calls.
Dear Glenn, have you purchased SkypeOut Credits from Skype? They are required to make and receive calls with IM+ for Skype. Also please check the callback number on the login page, it must be valid and entered in the international format, because you will receive an incoming call on this number.
If I make an IM+ SkyeOut call under an unlimited calling Skype plan, I am still paying for the minutes I use in my mobile phone plan, correct? That is, if I make a call on IM+, those minutes count against my usage under the plan I have with the Iphone, correct?
Basically there are Two KEYS, to Getting Unlimited Long Distance, and that is to get
1) Unlimited Cellphone Airtime Package: “Unlimited Incoming”, or Unlimited Evenings and Weekends, or a “City Fido” type package… This is because every call you place via the internet through the website, calls your cellphone to connect you, so if its Unlimited Time, or Receiving Calls is Unlimited, then you won’t have to worry about using up your minutes!!!
2) Unlimited SkypeOut Package: Skype actually offers 2 Unlimited Packages per month, which is WAY CHEAPER than paying AT&T, BELL or Rogers, for Long Distance Plans. For Unlimited Calls to Canada/USA Landline and Cellphone numbers is around $3US/mt or $36/Year…. For Unlimited Calls to 34 Countries Worldwide, its $10US/mt or $120/Year!
So basically, as long as you are within your Local Calling Area, your City, and you either have Unlimited Incoming or Unlimited Evenings/Weekends, or just Pure Unlimited Local Calls, but WANT TO CALL, someone outside of your Local Calling Area, which often isn’t that Far Away, by paying Skype $36/Year, you can call all those people from your Cellphone, or Iphone, for Far Less than it would have cost you, were you to get a long distance package for your cellular provider, or use calling cards.
AND DON’T FORGET! ITS A FREE CALL IF ITS SKYPE TO SKYPE, SO EVEN IF THE PERSON IS IN BRAZIL AND YOU’RE IN AUSTRALIA, AS LONG AS ITS UNLIMITED CELLULAR INCOMING OR EVENING/WEEKENDS, YOU CAN CHAT OR TALK FOR FREE!
If everyone around the world had an Iphone or a cellphone that could use this program, they call could call each other for free on Skype, without a Skype monthly plan, and if everyone had an Unlimited Incoming Plan, then you could talk for as long as you want!
WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS, CAN THE IPHONE RECEIVE CALLS VIA WIFI, OR
To be clear on this, Skype has an Unlimited Plan around $3US/Month for Unlimited calling within Canada and USA, and a $10US/Month plan for Unlimited Calling to 34 Countries Worldwide, Cellphone and landline numbers.
Let’s say someone has a cellphone plan with “Unlimited Incoming”, which most carriers offer, or a plan like the Legendary “City Fido” Plan which is unlimited incoming and outgoing, or at the very LEAST, Unlimited Evenings and Weekends.
They Get this program, “IM+ for Skype”, and they make a call to someone worldwide on skype
I do not understand why so many people are crying and moaning about this application. It’s working perfectly. You only need to read carefully the instructions and have common senses. English is not my native tounge and I still haven’t got any issue with it. Here’s what you need:Skype pro account,
Credit on it
Valid mobile number
Application downloaded
The only issue with it is that you MUST have at least 3G connection or wi-fi. Sometime working with EDGE as well.
So folks,if you pay more attention on what you’re reading you can save time, money, nerv etc.If anybody need help just come and see me on Skype. I’ll try to explain everything using everyday people’s language. Regards
Hello Ahran,
You can use IM+ for Skype over Wi-Fi for chatting easily.
You can also initiate a call using IM+ for Skype over Wi-Fi, but you need a call-back number to receive a call (as far as I understand if you are not going to subscribe for AT&T your iPhone won’t have a phone number). Your call-back number may be some other mobile you have or a landline which is nearby. You can see my previous post above for details.
Dear Joe, IM+ for Skype is based on SkypeOut credits which are set up by Skype Inc. and not related to SHAPE Services. SkypeOut is actually a very cost-effective system of international calling rates. When you make a Skype call from your iPhone and would like to receive a call back to your iPhone directly (not specifying a landline you have nearby as a callback number) you might also be charged by your carrier for an incoming call.
So the easiest way is to enter a landline number you have at hand. In this case you can initiate a call from your iPhone as usual, but you will receive a call-back to the landline, so no carrier charges apply. Here is a obvious table on how you can save on calls with IM+ for Skype http://www.shapeservices.com/en/products/details.php?product=skype&platform=none&page=saveim
Hope, when seeing all the advantages of the application, you will reconsider.
I’m about to get my free iPhone but I don’t want to get service from at&t for a while. Can I use my iPhone just as a WiFi phone to connect with Skype with this application without any service?
Hi,
iphonecallswith skype are expensive. There are no calls from skype to “iphone-skype” without charge.
Skype to Iphone-skype in Germany 20ct/min.
Its cheaper to call with normal or mobile phones.
No free calls from a skype-PC to iphone-Skype. 20ct/min., too.
Hello Alex, to make and receive calls using IM+ for Skype on your iPod Touch you are suggested to enter a valid mobile or landline phone number you have nearby. Calls will be redirected to the phone number you have specified. You will receive a callback (an incoming call). Don’t forget that you are required to have SkypeOut Credits on your SkypeOut account to make and receive calls.
Dear Philippe, to save your login and password in IM+ for Skype you are required to enter them in the corresponding fields, check the “Save” square and click Sign in. Your login and password will be saved. If the problem persists, please contact us at support@shapeservices.com. We will be glad to investigate the issue for you.
Michela, thank you for your post.
IM+ for Skype is web-based iPhone / iPod Touch application so you just need visit s4iphone.com (using Safari Browser) and log in to Skype with your existing Skype account.
When you make a call both the contact person and you will get the call. This is because when you use IM+ for Skype you are actually making two calls: one - to contact and another - to your callback number. The conversation will begin after your contact accepts the call and you accept the callback.
Regarding your question about ipod, just specify another mobile phone number with voice service or the closest landline number as the callback. Then all your calls will be forwarded to the specified phone number.
IM+ for Skype uses SkypeOut to transfer voice data over this wireless network, which ends up being rather cost-efficient if compared to Voice over IP (VoIP). With VoIP the airtime charge would be much higher than the charge with SkypeOut.
Furthermore, the call quality is better when you use SkypeOut rather than VoIP.
s you receive an incoming call to your callback phone you will be charged for it. The call is possible due to Skype credit on your SkypeOut account.
Marde, we can recommend you to use the closest landline phone number as the callback. Then while you are calling or receiving the calls, all your calls will be redirected to the specified phone number and you will be able to continue using IM+ for Skype.
I have used Skype primarily as a long distance service from my computer to any phone # (1 year paid plan. Very cheap, quality quite good.) I live in Montana, where there is no AT&T phone service. Is there any way to use an iPhone with Skype if you do not have AT&T as a carrier?
I am trying to get this for my ipod touch i was wondering if anyone can help me
I have jail broken my ipod and bought the microphone that i was told to the touch mod and i have got the volp on my ipod
Now i am trying to download this but want to have an icon on my screen how do i do this
Also i want to just make calls over the internet from my ipod without using the call back number how do i do this
As you receive the incoming call and if you are charged for it by your wireless carrier then there will be the fee for the incoming call.
If you are on unlimited tariff plan, there will not be additional charges for GPRS traffic.
Please note that you can always receive the callback to the closest landline. Just specify its number as the callback in the Call menu and then all your calls will be redirected to the specified phone number.
for using skype to call another wireless phone from the iphone safari iphone, does it use wireless minutes when the skype redirects the phone call back to me??
You are able to receive and make the calls to any contact in your Skype contact list.
IM+ for Skype uses SkypeOut to transfer voice data over this wireless network, which ends up being rather cost-efficient if compared to Voice over IP (VoIP).

You can always try IM+ for Skype in 10-day full-functional trial mode. Just visit s4iphone.com (using Safari Browser) on your iphone and login in to Skype with your existing Skype account.
how many times shall we say this: this software is USELESS. In order to make a call it charges your skype account more money that your mobile provider would charge you. That is because it uses your skype credits to CALL YOU BACK on your mobile phone. It is not free and it is actually the most EXPENSIVE way to make a call!
a couple of questions.
-can i talk iphone to pc, opposed to texting?
-if i get a wifi signal, or have unlimited data plan will it cost me any money?
-last, is the application free?
see comment above… Hrs of trying to get it to work and getting charged for calls where there was never a conversation had… Only a call back with silence on the other end. Joke. Don’t pay the money..
The SHAPE package should work on the Ipod-Touch, in which case a Skype Pro subscription should cost only the applicable Skype credits for any call placed, as it would from any internet device. Correct?
I have wireless thru work, so this arrangement would be a great supplement as a second line with VM and for wi-fi areas out of cell range - of which there are actually many around here. Make sense?
SSL actually transmits the DES key’s (or whatever symmetric keys) encrypted using public/private key schemas. The server doesnt know the key, unless they expend the resources to crack the RSA encryption ont he keys (which isnt a small task).
just another way of getting you to part of your money. Do you folks use skype for important calls? . Why pay for chatting about nothing? I am amazed to see how much we are willing to pay to try technology.
Sending text messages via IM+ for Skype is free. You pay only for Internet traffic while using a web app. If you have an unlimited tariff plan for there will not be additional charges for GPRS traffic
so when i use this IM+ with my iphone to text my skype buddies do i get charged texting messages from my carrier? Or does it not use my att texting service at all?
IM+ is perfect for my iPod Touch. I do not want a “smart” mobile. I like my touch and when I travel I will & do just IM+ phone2phone. Frankly audio quality may be better than SkypePC2Phone. Anyway I am adding my Contacts to Skype so they are ready when I am.
I’m having a really hard time using this program. Is it imperitive that I have a skype acc before trying im+ for skype? If so, then why did it allow me to pay 29.95 for the service? I was under the impression that I could set the whole thing up from my iPhone as a first time user.
are you people out of your mind? this way of calling is the most expensive you can ever get! it bills your skype acount with a mobile phone calling rate! thats £1 (2$) per 5 mins! and don’t give me that coocoo about social networking via skype! com’on now!
Hi Kieran! You can use IM+ for Skype on your iPod Touch for text and voice communication as well. Just enter a valid mobile or landline phone number you have nearby. Calls will be redirected to the phone number you have specified.
Some of my friends use multiple mobile numbers. They are in my Skype contacts. When I use IM+ I can’t see which mobilphone number will be used and I can’t choose the number I want. Is there any suggestion of how to solve this?
The contact list I get in my iPhone is not the same one I have in my skype account in Disk top I did not get the compleat contact list and I got contacts that are not in my orignal list . Also I don’t see the online contact form the offline ones because it dose show the status of the contacts if they are online or offline.

harry, IM+ for Skype allows to stay connected to Skype network, see your contacts online, chat easily and without any additional charges. Also if you call abroad, you can do it in cost-saving way using SkypeOut////
I have used it in Canada with my Skype Pro Unlimited calls + my cell phone unlimited incoming calls package. The idea of use my Skype to start a call to my friend with this web interface was great, however it consumes too much bandwith and it transfered more than 500KB just to start one call. It should use a small amount of data to start the call and stop it once the iphone version returns the call to your cell phone through GSM connection.
I am a happy customer. Used it during my trip to NY and saved a ton on oversea’s phone calls. You can set it up to callback on any landline number. Of course it helps if you are using fast wifi conections as opposed to Edge but NY is full of open wifi

When you are abroad you pay as roaming fare, that means that its expensive calling with IM+ for Skype than calling normaly, thats isn´t skype. In spite of the web, yes, is very important where you are.
I thinking of getting IM+skype on my new iphone, since I newbie on iphone, still confuse, is the flwg listed below is what basicly need to have before i purchase IM+skype ?
1) iphone
2) credit card
3) skype credit
4) enter the right phone number IM+skype in the login page
It sounds like I’ll be using Skyp Out credits even if I call Skype users on PC. But what if I have Skype unlimited calling within US and I call Skype user to their computer. Is this call going to be free?
Mircea, if you do not receive a callback, most likely you have entered a wrong phone number in IM+ for Skype login page.
Please make sure that correct country or region is selected and your phone number includes mobile provider code.
I tried to use skype on my Iphone and it did not work. I waited over 2 min and no ring. Still got charged for the international phone call. I also text messaged myself and did not showed up on my computer (other skype account). I hope it gets better.
When connection is established you will receive a callback (incoming call) to your phone number.
If you do not receive a callback, there could be two reasons:
1) You do not have SkypeOut credits or plan. SkypeOut credits or plan are required for all incoming and outgoing calls in IM+ for Skype.
2) You have entered a wrong phone number in IM+ for Skype login page.
Please make sure that correct country or region is selected.
Also please check if your phone number includes city or mobile provider code.
Let me clarify how IM+ for Skype works.
When you make a call both the contact person and you will get the call.
This is because when you use IM+ for Skype you are actually making two calls:
one – to Skype contact on PC and another – to your callback number.
From USA I call direct on my iphone to western europe and it cost me $0.049 per minute. Billed in 6 second increment, not like any other company billing you in minute increment. No setup fee, no contract, no obligation and so on. I use that company for over 4 years now and I am very happy with them. land line quality. That’s cheaper than skype. Skype will be helpful only while traveling and with good hot spot. Other wise, does not make sense, at least to me.
harry, IM+ for Skype allows to stay connected to Skype network, see your contacts online, chat easily and without any additional charges. Also if you call abroad, you can do it in cost-saving way using SkypeOut.
Franz, I’m not sure if mobile operators will allow software like native Skype client on iPhone. I think 3rd patry software catalog will be managed by Apple and Apple’s partners like AT&T, T-Mobile and others. I think they will not approve any voip software on iPhone
too expensive, too flaky. Its MUCH easier to buy 1000 minutes for $5 on a cheap international calling card and just speak via the phone.
Skype has its uses - this aint one of them.
$5 a month - what for? I already have to pay Skype - to try to monetize a service on top of a service that already has monetizing problems isnt smart.
It is only a matter of time before Skyp comes out with their own program for the iPhone, just as they have for the Windows Smartphones. But until then, this seems to be the best way to use SkypeOut on the iPhone.
if i go to the website via computer i can log in with my user name ect and it works, but when i try and do it via iphone it tells me that my information is incorrect- but it is the exact same info (i’ve redone it serveral times to make sure). any thoughts?
Scott, the same delay would occur if you were calling from the native Skype client on your PC I think because IM+ for Skype is based on Skype API. Try it.
The cause of delay is that you make calls from the web service to you landlines contacts. While calling to landlines numbers via desktop skype client I also have a delay in speaking. This is not the lack of the web service.
I have been waiting for this, the only problem is there is about a 2 second delay in speaking and the other party hearing your voice. I tried it with my wife in the same room… Not practical for my uses with that.
Can I install Skype in my iPod and talk?
Hi everybody !
i bought this im+ for skype application for my iphone a few days ago, and there is something i dont really understand.. i bought also unlimited europe credit (bout 4 euro/month) which i can use on my PC with Skype ( i can call landlines even in the Netherlands for free), but it doesn’t work on my iphone with your app. what could be the reason for that ?? please help me!

as the 2nd gen ipod touch can use a mic re. ear phones and mic from apple store why do you have to have a call back number on skype and not on fringe thanks

Hey, download fring, same thing, app on springboard and it’s FREE.
well i tested it on my iphone 2G - and its great - works perfect - greetings from vienna
Please let me know
Cheers
Sue
Dear Jules, thanks for your interest. We still plan to develop this kind of application, but I cannot provide any time frames unfortunately.
Thx
what is the progress on native app for iPhone? Is there any date set?
Hello is it necessary to use the skype tool with safari on iphone or is it a stand alone app?
Would it be free when both outgoing and callback numbers are Skype account number on PC ?
hi, why the call is always failed from belkin skype desktop phone to IM+ in iphone ? anyone ever tried this ?
i can’t sign in!! i type in my username, password etc.. but then it goes to a pays that says connecting and then suddenly says “disconnected” connection failed, try to reconnect.. why does it do that?? do you have to be using wifi to access this app??? somebody please help this is driving me insane..
maricel, please make sure you have enough SkypeOut Credits on your account.
You would think now that the SDK is available you would develop a non-web version, hopefully one that could run in the background.
same as Fritz Vogt , can call but they cant hear me and i cant hear them
itouch works whitout microphone? can i spoke by itouch?
So here is my question,
As of right now I have a Unlimited SkypeOut plan for US and Canada which includes landlines and cellphones.
Thank you
Dear Pablo, firstly IM+ for Skype is not a native application for iPhone so you couldn’t download it, you can just enter the site and sign in through Safari browser.
If the site is not loading, please check your connection.
can i also use im+ with my ipod touch because i haven’t hot a number it doesent load the site when i log in
Chris, you cannot download IM+ for Skype since it is a web application, not native. Instead you can use it by entering s4iphone.com in your Safari browser.
where i can down it?
Dear Earl, with IM+ for Skype, minimal data traffic is involved when you send a voice or a text. On average 5Kb of traffic per hour is used when you stay online in IM+ for Skype and send or receive messages. The amount of traffic will depend on the length of your contact list and the frequency with which your Skype contacts get online/offline. If you are on the unlimited tariff plan, there will be no additional charges for GPRS traffic.
lol! This might be cheap a calling but how about my internet connection bill what if there is no free wifi connection.
There soon will be a release of Mobiola Headset for Skype. This might suit you
It turns your mobile to a headset to comunicate with Skype users.
If you would like to use your iPod only, may be you should ask Apple to make some headset))
Will there be a headset coming out to make sktpe fully functional through the Ipod touch.
mleighb, the text option is free! you do not pay for the messages or whatever, just a small traffic usage, really small.
I have been using this service on the first gen iphone and its working great even with a low bars.. Thanks skype! I now can lower my mins with AT&T!
lvo1, we are thinking about a native IM+ for Skype still it can be ready not in the nearest future due to technical and other reasons.
Shape,
If I make an IM+ SkyeOut call under an unlimited calling Skype plan, I am still paying for the minutes I use in my mobile phone plan, correct?
Regards
I have paid for the full version of this program, but I cannot receive skype calls on my iPhone. Does anyone know why?
Sorry - no good deal for me.
It’s a pitty that you can run 10 days trial of this product, and with your iPodTouch you can only chat with skype users not calls available
Hello Daniel,
You can run 10 days free trial of IM+ for Skype on your iPhone to find out whether it will on port 80.
How about Port 80? Does it work on that? Because T-Mobile in Germany only permits communication on Port 80 on their data tarif.
Of course IM+ Skype will work on iPhone 3G
Will this work on the new iPhone 3G? Does it use port 80 for communication?
Dear Philippe, to save your login and password in IM+ for Skype you are required to enter them in the corresponding fields, check the “Save” square and click Sign in. Your login and password will be saved. If the problem persists, please contact us at support@shapeservices.com. We will be glad to investigate the issue for you.
How do I store my Skype name and password When I connect with my iphone, the save square seems not to be working
Also is there another internet program i can get on my ipod that will allow me to make free internet to internet calls thanks to anyone who can help
When you make a call both the contact person and you will get the call. This is because when you use IM+ for Skype you are actually making two calls: one - to contact and another - to your callback number. As you receive an incoming call to your callback phone you will be charged for it. The call is possible due to Skype credit on your SkypeOut account.
If you are charged for the incoming calls by your wireless carrier then there will be additional fee for the incoming call but if you are on unlimited tariff plan, there will not be additional charges for GPRS traffic.
Is this site down now? Just a search page for me on my iphone.
a couple of questions.
-can i talk iphone to pc, opposed to texting?
-if i get a wifi signal, or have unlimited data plan will it cost me any money?
-last, is the application free?
Had minimal success, overall not a bad app but do not expect perfection, but honestly I kinda expected exactly what I got.
iphone is my best friend
see comment above… Hrs of trying to get it to work and getting charged for calls where there was never a conversation had… Only a call back with silence on the other end. Joke. Don’t pay the money..
thx for creating iphone its the best.
:p
just another way of getting you to part of your money.
I’d prefer reading in my native language, because my knowledge of your languange is no so well. But it was interesting! Look for some my links:
I’m having a really hard time using this program. Is it imperitive that I have a skype acc before trying im+ for skype? If so, then why did it allow me to pay 29.95 for the service? I was under the impression that I could set the whole thing up from my iPhone as a first time user.
are you people out of your mind? this way of calling is the most expensive you can ever get! it bills your skype acount with a mobile phone calling rate! thats £1 (2$) per 5 mins! and don’t give me that coocoo about social networking via skype! com’on now!
To use IM+ for Skype to call your friends, you will need SkypeOut Credit. All information about charges and how to save on calls please find here: http://www.shapeservices.com/en/products/details.php?product=skype&platform=none&page=saveim
I need skype out credit? If I pay 25$,I can use I’m+skype full and free?
Very nice apps!!
Hi Kieran! You can use IM+ for Skype on your iPod Touch for text and voice communication as well. Just enter a valid mobile or landline phone number you have nearby. Calls will be redirected to the phone number you have specified.
How do I use this soft ware with my i touch

Why cheiting people??????
I have used it in Canada with my Skype Pro Unlimited calls + my cell phone unlimited incoming calls package. The idea of use my Skype to start a call to my friend with this web interface was great, however it consumes too much bandwith and it transfered more than 500KB just to start one call. It should use a small amount of data to start the call and stop it once the iphone version returns the call to your cell phone through GSM connection.
does IM+ support skypepro yet I live in canada and don’t see the convenience if it only supports skypepro in germany
My contact list does not completly appear on the iphone, and includes some unknown contacts.
I am a happy customer. Used it during my trip to NY and saved a ton on oversea’s phone calls. You can set it up to callback on any landline number. Of course it helps if you are using fast wifi conections as opposed to Edge but NY is full of open wifi
if you are using skype on destop to make a call to iphone or vice versa its that a free of charge?
if i’m using wifi woils i still need skype out credits?
i hate how u have to go to a WEBSITE on SAFARI in order to do aim…weird….:D
this application skype for iphone uses wifi ?
Iphone biker, maybe, the connection is lost. Please try to reconnect.
skype chat does not show last responces after a couple of chatlines
bug?

Jose Ram, you can find more information how to save on calls in roaming at: http://www.shapeservices.com/en/products/details.php?product=skype&platform=iphone&page=saveim
JR, when you make a call using IM+ for Skype, you will always need a callback number.
When you are abroad you pay as roaming fare, that means that its expensive calling with IM+ for Skype than calling normaly, thats isn´t skype. In spite of the web, yes, is very important where you are.
I have Skype pro account. Will I be able to make a US call directly without using the call back?
jack, does ichat support skype??? isn’t it for aol im only???
pointless app, ichat client for free msging already available for international use phone card , lagg makes this a joke
I thinking of getting IM+skype on my new iphone, since I newbie on iphone, still confuse, is the flwg listed below is what basicly need to have before i purchase IM+skype ?
1) iphone
2) credit card
3) skype credit
4) enter the right phone number IM+skype in the login page
is that all I need ??
the skype is really a great software for hand held mobile devices
Gintas, in this case SkypeOut calls within US and Canada will be free.
As for problems with chat, please send a request to support team: http://www.shapeservices.com/en/support/support.php?form=skype_iphone
This is because when you use IM+ for Skype you are actually making two calls:
one – to Skype contact on PC and another – to your callback number.
doesn’t work for me,same problem as Fritz Vogt… can only chat
Ivan, Skype is not only a cheap calling. It is a kind of social network also…
From USA I call direct on my iphone to western europe and it cost me $0.049 per minute.
Try it.
I use beta version of this app. I’m interested in commersial version. When will it be available? How much will it cost? I want to buy it.
The cause of delay is that you make calls from the web service to you landlines contacts. While calling to landlines numbers via desktop skype client I also have a delay in speaking. This is not the lack of the web service.
I can call from my iphone to a landline using skype but the person on the other end cannot hear me and I cannot hear them.
I have been waiting for this, the only problem is there is about a 2 second delay in speaking and the other party hearing your voice. I tried it with my wife in the same room… Not practical for my uses with that.
