Hey lets type our desktop access user id and password in on their website so they can log into our computer while were away….”Don’t log info. on the server”……MY ASS!!

David S. on August 27th, 2007 at 9:55 am

ANY remote computer access application like this should be provided as an installer for a machine you control and not hosted on someone else’s site.

This is a major security no-no.

Helen on August 30th, 2007 at 3:31 am

RDM+ for iPhone works through SSL. All login information is encrypted and can only be recognized by the computer. As a quick reminder, the banking system is encrypted with SSL. So every time the purchase on the internet is made you are protected by SSL. It is common knowledge that remote access products are strongly encrypted.

marc lenahan on September 3rd, 2007 at 9:25 pm

Wow! This is hugely beautiful! It is simple, and works like a charm. It totally solves my iphone problem of not being able to access my email folders. I’m thrilled. Five stars for me. Plus, though it looks like the iphone version is not for sale yet, the versions for other mobile devices are super affordable.

secure1 on November 6th, 2007 at 6:19 pm

wow…if you think that this is secure….you really don’t have any Idea what being secure is…..this is just something cute to play around with but still, if they are hosting your info regardless of what they say, it’s still not secure.

SHAPE Services on November 7th, 2007 at 3:26 pm

We do our best to provide strong security. All data transferring between remote computer and your iPhone is strongly encrypted. For data encryption RDM+ uses 3DES (Triple DES, CBC mode) algorithm with 128-bits key. The 3DES key is randomly generated each time when the new session is started. It guarantees top level data protection. The data can be decrypted only by mobile device or remote computer. RDM Server cannot decrypt these data and doesn’t store your computer accounts. The server’s only function is to provide communication channel between your iPhone/iPodTouch and remote computer.

Super_Tee on November 14th, 2007 at 12:39 pm

Nice idea, but it’s Windoze only!! Meh!

Zebulon on November 14th, 2007 at 2:55 pm

It puzzles me that someone would produce an iPhoe application that does not support the Macintosh operating system. Is one in the works?

SHAPE Services on November 15th, 2007 at 8:26 am

Surely, we are working on Mac version. Hope to release it in the nearest future.

ali on November 15th, 2007 at 3:37 pm

thx

mohad on December 5th, 2007 at 6:13 pm

thanks

andreid on December 20th, 2007 at 4:54 pm

just because SSL it’s used that doesn’t necessarly make it secure. If I first connect to some site before (and in order to) I connect to my desktop, than that site can do anything it wants with my info before forwarding it to the desktop.

SHAPE Services on December 22nd, 2007 at 10:31 pm

andreid, the data transmitted could be decrypted only by your iPhone or your remote computer. This guarantees high security.

BTW, SSL encryption is used in all online payment systems, which have proved their reliability.

chris on December 23rd, 2007 at 10:29 pm

This is very insecure. Yes, there is encryption, but you do not know what is being done by rdmplus.com. I think this is what everyone else was complaining about but did not specify this. rdmplus.com can hijack the connection between your iphone and the computer. They can get you username, password, …

If you don’t understand this, google “man in the middle attack”. This is a very common attack that is perpetrated by sites like this that pretend to offer you a service.

SHAPE Services on December 24th, 2007 at 5:49 am

Chris, that’s not what we are going to do. Our aim is to offer RDM+ users secure remote access.
The guarantee is our business reputation.

SHAPE Services offers mobile applications to people worldwide from 1999. We partner with such companies as SonyEricsson, T-Mobile and Orange. We have thousands of satisfied customers all over the world.

We are not interested in illegal and criminal activity.

Jay on December 25th, 2007 at 10:15 pm

And if you guys really don’t trust this… if you were smart you would simply set up a log on your computer to tell you if somebody else has connected at a time when you know it wasn’t you… either that or be smart and change your password… do you really think they want to get into your computers? I doubt any EU has anything that a company of this size would want/need.

andreid on December 26th, 2007 at 7:06 pm

What Chris, myself and others are trying to say is that unlike a classical 2-party SSL scheme (eg when I connect to my bank directly, using https) where security is guaranteed by the *protocol*, the security model RDM+ offers is weaker, because it also requires users to trust a 3rd party - your company in this particular case. We’re not questioning SHAPE’s honesty, we’re just saying that the company has the means to obtain users’ private information.

Tyler on January 3rd, 2008 at 9:18 pm

Andreid, I do not think that it could have been explained better than you have just done so. The problem is not that the company, Shape, is untrusted or believed to be apart of anything criminal. What it is, as some of us painfully see, the POTENTIAL for them or any individual in their company or someone from outside their company who is able to gain access to their records now has the capabilities to infiltrate any secure connection as well to acquire user name/password combinations with conveniently attached corresponding I.P. addresses for them to create botnets, or some other illegal activity.

mubaarik on January 4th, 2008 at 7:00 am

i need iphone app

gobi on January 7th, 2008 at 5:53 am

I am very satisfied with this system it allowes me to do remotte mainitance on my servers at work as well as the regular virus scan and so on my compuetr at home all this using my iphone…thanks to rdm+ i am able to spend more time doing what i want

flyingashtrays on January 7th, 2008 at 11:42 pm

yeah u guys really should avoid this to protect your nuclear launch codes especially since u like banks so much and there have been no security breaches in banking in the last decade

SHAPE Services on January 9th, 2008 at 10:31 am

Tyler, to protect security we have designed our RDM server so that it cannot decrypt username / password data in any case. Username and password are stored on your computer and on you iphone/itouch only. RDM server receives only encrypted data and cannot decrypt them.
Every time you start a new session, new key is randomly generated. It would be very difficult to decrypt RDM data and it would take a lot of time. You would need to worry, if you deal with top secret data, but in this case using remote access apps is out of the question.

Mudkips on January 12th, 2008 at 9:20 am

Reminds me of the kids tearing up the house for a remote to the tv instead of getting up to push the button to change the channel.

Shape services, you are scary. Please do not haxor my megahurtz. I

BRYANT on January 21st, 2008 at 12:23 am

CAN YOU HEAR YOUR COMPUTER’S AUDIO SO I COULD WATCH AND HEAR MY SLINGBOX?

TheHorta on January 22nd, 2008 at 5:21 pm

In their defense, I don’t think SHAPE Services is promoting this as an enterprise utility, only as a personal user tool to gain remote access to a home computer. The iPhone, after all, is a TOY and definitely NOT a business productivity tool such as a Pocket PC or a laptop. If you want secure remote access to an enterprise from your handheld you’ll need a Pocket PC. This is a true point-to-point connection. The iPhone is not designed to compete with such tools nor could it.

If you want to use an iPhone to access an enterprise you’re not worth a dime as an administrator.

methods on January 24th, 2008 at 1:00 am

CS 101. Man in the middle. Before the secure transaction can happen both parties need the seed. . . Which is passed through the man in the middle. I dont think they will hack you but the point is that they -could- if they wanted to. Proceed with caution.

burtthaman on February 13th, 2008 at 10:46 am

so the question was never answered… will this allow video/audio playback so that things such as slingbox or any media for that matter can be played using the iphone remotely? and if not someone should really make something like this.. :)

Astro on February 18th, 2008 at 12:23 pm

Windows Only????

g-man on February 20th, 2008 at 8:11 pm

I dunno, have you guys actually looked at their webpage? they do have a ton of apps along this line.

Rob on February 21st, 2008 at 4:20 pm

Will it run Vista media center or media center on my home computer through my wireless network?

Rob on February 21st, 2008 at 4:21 pm

or media player also

Erick on February 23rd, 2008 at 4:13 pm

Why are people asking why its windows only? RDC is a windows application called Remote Desktop. Its terminal services and this app lets you access that with your iphone using a bridge. Whats so confusing about that?

Jason on March 2nd, 2008 at 11:50 pm

RDC+ is based of windows proprietary remote desktop.
Mac and Linux users can use VNC. Just search “VNC+: Virtual Network Computing for Mobiles”.
Security is always an issue with remote sessions. I have just installed the trial. If I encounter any illegal uses of my machine I will let everyone know.

michael on March 22nd, 2008 at 12:30 am

re: RDC this is NOT a Win only app. RSC is also a Mac app, so this is a totally legitimate inquiry. We use it here at work to access our Terminal server from our Macs.

Brock on March 22nd, 2008 at 1:01 am

Jason did you encountor any illegal uses of your machine

Matt on March 30th, 2008 at 7:13 pm

Main in the middle attack only works with a symmetric algorithm, asymmetric such as RSA uses a public key which can be distributed freely, and a private key to decrypt. This way the man in the middle is thwarted. I’m not sure which DES is, but I thought SSL was based on RC-4

George Bouyet on April 17th, 2008 at 12:03 am

It’s been almost a week and I’m still waiting for an answer from these people. I registered, and the software is saying I didn’t not. Now I’ve been locked out of my account and no one gets back to me. Not sure If I recommend anyone making a purchase when you there’s no way to get any customer support, nor do they have a phone number to contact them. Very unhappy. Keep you posted. Sent over 15 e-mails and no replies.

DIMITRIY on June 8th, 2008 at 7:24 pm

George,
Did you get a response yet?

SHAPE Services on June 10th, 2008 at 4:02 pm

Dear DIMITRIY, George Bouyet has contacted us and has got a reply. Still George has provided not enough information to help him.

SHAPE Services on June 10th, 2008 at 4:06 pm

SHAPE Services on June 10th, 2008 at 4:21 pm

Dear users, RDM+ doesn’t support audio/video playback from the PC. RDM+ works on Windows NT / 2000 / XP / Vista. If you have any questions, you can visit our FAQ Section on our site or forward them to support@shapeservices.com for the prompt reply

anthony on July 14th, 2008 at 9:14 pm

i think that SHAPE Services and rdmplus.com are legit and secure, i think this is a grat app.

Martin on July 28th, 2008 at 10:56 pm

this works great, I have been using for 8 months on my first iPhone. With 3G phone it is AWESOME!!! Thanks Shape !!!!

Quang on July 31st, 2008 at 9:17 pm

I tested the demo. Very nice. I’ll wait for the Mac version to buy.

Jerry on August 9th, 2008 at 2:10 pm

Because the iphone only alllows you to read microsoft word, powerpoint and excel documents, would this allow me to make changes to a document, save it in a folder and email it to a client? SHAPE, please confirm.

I can’t beleive iPhone doesn’t have microsoft office or the ability to edit documents, save them and email them out. That’s the only thing holding it back from being a top teir phone.

I have some concerns about the security comments, but it appears that Shape stands by their statements of protection.

SHAPE Services on August 20th, 2008 at 4:01 pm

Jerry, if you already have Microsoft Office and an application to send emails on your computer, you can make changes to a document, save it in a folder and email. With RDM+ you can use your iPhone as a tool of access, it doesn’t require having the office on your iPhone. You can easily try it as RDM+ is available in trial.

slc09 on August 31st, 2008 at 5:57 am

um how do i get the computer number?

SHAPE Services on September 2nd, 2008 at 5:41 pm

You should install the desktop part of RDM+ on the PC (or on all the PC) you want to access remotely. Run the installation executable file rdmplus_iphone_desktop.exe and follow instruction of the installation wizard to completely install the product. You can download this file from our site: www.rdmplus.com/download/rdm. During the installation you will receive your computer number.

MacGuy on September 25th, 2008 at 6:04 pm

SHAPE Services on September 26th, 2008 at 1:57 pm

MacGuy, thanks for noticing. We’ve changed the site look so the link changed to http://www.rdmplus.com/rdm/iphone/download.html

brad williams on September 30th, 2008 at 7:15 am

I downloaded the software to my puter then filled in all the blanks. got an email says I was set up. got my iPhone on the right page saw the puter in the address book clicked on it to connect and got a wrong username or password error. after 45 mins of playing with this damn thing all I want to know is what the hell?

SHAPE Services on September 30th, 2008 at 1:16 pm

Hello Brad, please click the RDM+ icon on the task bar on your PC and select “Accounts”. Then please click on your user name and then choose “Password”. Please enter a new password, maybe something simple as 12345, confirm it and select “OK”. Then try to log in in RDM+ on your iPhone once more. If that doesn’t help please contact our support team at support@shapeservices.com

Mark on December 30th, 2008 at 5:26 pm

I use logmeon.com. I haven’t tried it on the touch or iphone yet. But it’s browser based so it should work. I can remote my iMac at home with my PC at work or vice versa. If not, I’ll try this solution.
