iMagazine: an early experiment in phone-sized games publishing

The original iMagazine presented illustrated, review-led issues focused mainly on iPhone games.

iMagazine was an electronic magazine identified by Apple app ID 301992506. The March 26, 2009 review described a graphical, review-led publication focused mainly on iPhone gaming, with roughly ten short illustrated pieces in each issue.

An issue rather than an endless feed

The issue format is the distinctive idea. A fixed selection of articles gives the reader a beginning and an end, with editorial choices about what belongs together. Short features and illustrations adapt that familiar magazine structure to a phone’s screen.

The historical reviewer reported five available issues and described the publication as free at that point. Those details are a snapshot of the reviewed edition, not a claim about its entire publication history or current price.

The original review praised the attempt while acknowledging flaws. This overview does not turn that opinion into our own hands-on assessment. The surviving text does not establish subscription tools, offline reading or how new issues were delivered.

Current download availability and access to the issue archive remain unverified. The recovered article preserves an early mobile-publishing experiment without inventing additional issues or presenting it as a currently operating magazine.
