Nifty Words: use an English–German dictionary with context

The older English–German Dictionary URL now identifies Dieter Saken’s Nifty Words listing. Here is a useful way to approach word lookup.

The historical English–German Dictionary URL identifies Apple app ID 317226437, currently listed as German Dictionary, Nifty Words by Dieter Saken. The description presents a bilingual dictionary with offline lookup, search history and favorites. It also distinguishes the standard edition’s written phonetics from audio-related options and the separate Pro product.

Look up the sentence’s job, not only the word

A short dictionary result can offer several possible translations. Before choosing one, ask how the word is being used in the sentence you are reading. Note the surrounding phrase and whether you need a noun, verb or another form. Picking the first result without that context can produce a sentence that contains recognizable words but conveys the wrong idea.

Save a word together with the phrase that gave it meaning. Favorites work better as a small revision list than as an unfiltered record of every lookup.

Check the exact edition before a trip

The Apple record checked in September 2026 shows a June 2020 update and description text referring to older iOS versions. An accessible listing is not a test of today’s compatibility. Inspect the product offered to your device, and confirm the lookup behavior you need before depending on it without a connection. Do not assume a feature described for Pro is included in the edition at this ID.
