In an age when the environment is garnering more attention and global warming seems to be an increasingly popular topic, it is no surprise that iPhone apps are taking cues and beginning to focus on beloved Mother Earth. One such app, which turns recycling into a game, is i-Dig: The Recycling Challenge. The game is based on an ecological adventure in which the goal is to help a worm collect (and properly recycle) as much trash as possible. There are obstacles to amp up the excitement of rummaging and recycling, and the game also offers single and multi-player modes. At the end of the day, though,  i-Dig  is just reinforcing some eco-friendly habits which, let’s face it, we all need to adopt.

One of the most famous moments in history (we’re now in the 40th anniversary year) is now yours to recreate in Apollo XI. Not a traditional 2D ‘lunar lander’ game, this is more a complete simulation of landing the real thing on the real moon. From the 3D view to the boring-but-frighteningly-realistic controls, there’s an adrenaline-fuelled sense of “this is it, I’ve got one chance to land the ‘Eagle’ and if I blow it then we’re all dead”. For those who have lots of photos and albums on their iPhone or iPod Touch, Pix Remix allows an even better way to share them. Pix Remix allows its users to create collages (complete with captions) and even mini-narratives to send to friends or share on sites such as Facebook and Twitter. It’s a great way to provide a picture play-by-play of what you’re doing or thinking, or just put together pictures you think are cool, with the added ability to personalize and send your creation. As the Pix Remix goes, you really are able to “turn your photos into shows.”

Do you know what a ‘Decline Close-grip Benchpress’ is? No, neither did I until I’d worked through iFitness on the iPhone and iPod Touch. With multiple updates over the last year, this has evolved into perhaps the premiere iPhone-based exercise aid. It’s worth noting a big bias in iFitness towards using the facilities in a gym, but there are also entries for ‘Stretches’ and ‘Cardio’, each of which is more applicable to those without a gym membership.
