Those terms are brought up far too often. You won't have to go far to discover what they mean. As an aside, personally, I like to retain the disc's full functionality. Others, however, don't care, and they re-author the disc to include the main titles/episodes/concerts etc. If you are one of the latter, maybe next time you can try that. But as larry said, if you're still getting the red bar up top, using an encoder pays huge dividends.
