I have been waiting for this, the only problem is there is about a 2 second delay in speaking and the other party hearing your voice. I tried it with my wife in the same room… Not practical for my uses with that.

The cause of delay is that you make calls from the web service to you landlines contacts. While calling to landlines numbers via desktop skype client I also have a delay in speaking. This is not the lack of the web service.

Scott, the same delay would occur if you were calling from the native Skype client on your PC I think because IM+ for Skype is based on Skype API. Try it.

It is only a matter of time before Skyp comes out with their own program for the iPhone, just as they have for the Windows Smartphones. But until then, this seems to be the best way to use SkypeOut on the iPhone.

too expensive, too flaky. Its MUCH easier to buy 1000 minutes for $5 on a cheap international calling card and just speak via the phone.
Skype has its uses – this aint one of them.
$5 a month – what for? I already have to pay Skype – to try to monetize a service on top of a service that already has monetizing problems isnt smart.

Franz, I'm not sure if mobile operators will allow software like native Skype client on iPhone. I think 3rd patry software catalog will be managed by Apple and Apple's partners like AT&T, T-Mobile and others. I think they will not approve any voip software on iPhone

harry, IM+ for Skype allows to stay connected to Skype network, see your contacts online, chat easily and without any additional charges. Also if you call abroad, you can do it in cost-saving way using SkypeOut.

From USA I call direct on my iphone to western europe and it cost me $0.049 per minute. Billed in 6 second increment, not like any other company billing you in minute increment. No setup fee, no contract, no obligation and so on. I use that company for over 4 years now and I am very happy with them. land line quality. That's cheaper than skype. Skype will be helpful only while traveling and with good hot spot. Other wise, does not make sense, at least to me.

Let me clarify how IM+ for Skype works.
When you make a call both the contact person and you will get the call.
This is because when you use IM+ for Skype you are actually making two calls:
one – to Skype contact on PC and another – to your callback number.

When connection is established you will receive a callback (incoming call) to your phone number.

If you do not receive a callback, there could be two reasons:
1) You do not have SkypeOut credits or plan. SkypeOut credits or plan are required for all incoming and outgoing calls in IM+ for Skype.
2) You have entered a wrong phone number in IM+ for Skype login page.
Please make sure that correct country or region is selected.
Also please check if your phone number includes city or mobile provider code.

I tried to use skype on my Iphone and it did not work. I waited over 2 min and no ring. Still got charged for the international phone call. I also text messaged myself and did not showed up on my computer (other skype account). I hope it gets better.

Mircea, if you do not receive a callback, most likely you have entered a wrong phone number in IM+ for Skype login page.
Please make sure that correct country or region is selected and your phone number includes mobile provider code.

As for problems with chat, please send a request to support team: http://www.shapeservices.com/en/support/support.php?form=skype_iphone

It sounds like I'll be using Skyp Out credits even if I call Skype users on PC. But what if I have Skype unlimited calling within US and I call Skype user to their computer. Is this call going to be free?

Gintas, in this case SkypeOut calls within US and Canada will be free.
