Recently, I posted a review of Mobiola Web Camera, an awesome app that turns your iPhone into essentially a portable, wireless, high-quality web camera for your computer. In the bitter cold that winter brings (at least for most of us), it’s impossible to get by without gloves. However, what keeps our hands warm also poses an issue to iphone usage, since touch by fingers is needed to operate the device (yes, there are things you can buy to help this conundrum, like touchscreen gloves and stylus pens, but who wants to spend money on those?). Even though the iPhone has been around for years now, the novelty has not worn off. It’s all you can do to keep people from playing with it or lustfully eyeing it. Well, if you’re concerned about someone taking their iPhone envy too far, Motion Alarm is a fun and useful app to invest in. It has motion-detection technology so that once a certain level of motion is reached, a customized alarm will sound (the app offers a wide variety of dog barks, traditional alarms, and explosion effects). There are many ways to control the alarm settings, and even darkening features so that the phone appears off even when it is not. Furthermore, there is GPS tracking so if you really are paranoid about your iPhone walking away without you, you will always know where to find it (note: this could also be practical if you have  tendency to lose things). Whether you’re trying to teach someone a lesson, deter thieves, play a harmless prank, or keep tabs on your phone’s whereabouts, Motion Alarm is one you should make moves towards.

A little over a month ago, I wrote about Mobiola WebCamera, an app that had tackled many smartphone platforms, but not the iPhone. This week, things changed, and now I am very excited to welcome Mobiola WebCamera to the iPhone domain! Essentially, it eliminates your need to invest in a web camera, and at the cost of only $1.99 is a small fraction of the price of a computer web camera attachment (which usually are at least $50). One of the most anticipated and celebrated features of the iPhone 4 was its addition of front-facing cameras and Face Time, enabling users to take communication on-the-go to a visual realm. However, it’s been over 4 months since that revelation and yet not many are engaging in this new form of mobile contact. It’s not that Face Time is technologically flawed — many exalt it for its seamless way of enabling video conferences from a phone. The real issue lies in the fact that Face time can be used only by iPhone 4 users with other iPhone 4 users. This element is not only extremely limiting, but renders this iPhone 4 feature virtually unusable — a fact that is apparent by the lack of people actually taking advantage of Face Time.
