If you’ve ever had a phone in your life, you’ve definitely gotten a phone call from at least one number you didn’t recognize.  Even with caller ID on your home phone, there are some numbers that are private or otherwise unable to be read.  Mr. Number Reverse Lookup and Contact Backup is an app that can assist in finding out who is actually calling you.

As I have previously mentioned, I really enjoy apps that help people to be better organized. I myself am pretty challenged when it comes to organization and use any help that I get. 2Do Lite and Errands are two apps that are meant to help people like me keep better track of tasks, projects and of all things that need to get done. However, both apps that happen to also be free, attempt to achieve this in different ways. 2Do Lite and Errands are effective but it really is a matter of taste in terms of which one is better than the other. I prefer Errands and I will outline why that is as I compare both apps.

Hooray to all the Mac lovers. One of my favorite apps — Headset — is finally available for iPhone/Mac (formerly it was only an iPhone/Windows software).

Save your buck and never buy again an always breaking wired headsets for your online VoIP communication. Why bother if you have quality speaker and microphone in your iPhone? The app connects iPhone wirelessly to your desktop or notebook computer (you have to only install a free dekstop software) and voila — you can call on Skype, Google Talk, AIM etc and have all your audio coming in and out of your iPhone, isn’t it great?

But there is more to it! You can RECORD your conversations! You can also have a flexibility to walk out to another room from your computer since you are connected to it via WiFi. Check it out!

While the human brain is capable of many things, remembering names is not always one of them. Well…there’s an app to help that. Whoodl allows you to input names along with identifying keywords so that you can easily recall who people are the next time you see them. Even if they are not particularly noteworthy or contact-worthy people, this still helps avoid the embarassing “Hey…you” moments. All you have to do is search your names list before you anticipate running into a certain group of people or enter the identifying keywords into the search when you run into someone whose name is beyond your memory, and you will forever be known as the person who is good with names.

Have you ever dreamed of being a great master of something? Thomas Edison once said, “genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration,” and recent studies show that he was perfectly correct!  Studies are showing that the best of the best only reach that point of mastery after 10,000 hours practicing their craft.  This idea has recently come into the public eye thanks to Malcolm Gladwell’s book Outliers which provides several examples of famous geniuses who reached their peaks only after practicing 10,000 hours.  Level Me Up HD! for the iPhone takes this quantified mark of genius and makes it into a game for your benefit.  It encourages you to reach these levels of mastery with a reward system much like one out of a role-playing video game.

For those of us who need to set goals, whether we find it satisfying or necessary, the Streaks – Motivational Calendar app is a great tool for keeping track of progress.  From keeping track of how many days you’ve gone without smoking to how many times you’ve practiced violin this week, this app will help organize your progress towards your goal.  It counts how many days you’ve made an effort to reach your goal and tallies them as a streak.  If you miss a day, you end your streak.  By keeping tabs of your longest streaks, this calendar app motivates you to compete against yourself to see how long you can continue a streak.

Before going into this, I just want to first list a couple of factors that were considered.

Functions(quality/quantity)
Price

All apps below discussed are “comprehensive” office apps, able to create, edit, format, and share(with e-mail or google doc etc) Microsoft Word docs and Excel spreadsheets. Read the rest of this entry »
