Have you ever seen a dish pass by and think, “I want that!”, or wanted to know where you could find that delicious looking sandwich? Foodspotting draws on the human tendency to initially desire something based on its appearance, and enables you to essentially pick your food based on its picture. The app presents you with photographs of dishes at nearby restaurants creating a different way to choose what and where to eat, similar to windowshopping before buying clothes. Simple were the times when reality was exactly as we saw it. Now, apps are introducing augmented experiences to what’s right in front of our face. By utilizing the iPhone camera, many apps enable you to see things that aren’t immediately there, be it stores and restaurants in the nearby areas, information about your surroundings, or explosions of cars you see that you don’t particularly like. These “augmented reality” apps show what’s there in conjunction with what’s not, and could very well be the future of how we perceive reality, by enhancing it with information, fabrications, suggestions, others’ feedback, and advertisements.
