The App Store Cleans Up Its Act

Posted in Entertainment, Miscellaneous on Feb, 26

The latest buzz is that the App Store has eliminated many “dirty” apps from its offerings (although some made by big name companies, such as Playboy and Sports Illustrated, are still available). It seems that a few too many developers realized just how much sex sells, and the App Store was increasingly becoming a less family-friendly place. While there are those who consider this to be a breach of freedom of content (and are probably bitter about losing a certain fix) and I do think people should have liberty to create and partake in what they want, I have to side with the more conservative folk of the world on this issue. I think there is definitely a certain time and place for explicit content — the public domain of the app store, where everything can be accessed by anyone at any time, is absolutely inappropriate. Even though a person may not use the apps he/she comes across, the fact is they are still out there, and even the thumbnail can do some damage. Therefore, I applaud those who govern the App Store for making it a much cleaner, friendlier place. I no longer have to gouge my eyes out when I visit the entertainment section.

Rate this! Ratemyprofessors.com finally releases an app

Posted in Education, Miscellaneous, Social Networking, Utilities on Feb, 23

A few weeks ago, ratemyprofessors.com finally decided to jump on the app bandwagon. This is great news for college students all around, as the app, like the website, will feature over 10 million reviews and comments for more than 1 million professors at 6,000+ schools within and beyond US borders. Now students can have this useful information in the palm of their hands when signing up for classes, talking with fellow students, or figuring out if a class is worth staying in — without having to rely on computer access. Students hold the grade book now, and at only $0.99, this app is certainly A-worthy.

Headset for iPhone — use iPhone as wireless headset for your PC

Posted in Lifestyle, Miscellaneous, Music, Social Networking, Utilities on Feb, 16

A unique new app just showed up in AppStore. This idea seems on the surface, but nobody implemented it until now. Your phone has quality speaker and microphone, why would you buy a PC headset if you have your phone already; and phone can be used as wireless headset since it has a WiFi connectivity, isn’t it cool? Get the Headset app from AppStore, download and install Headset desktop part run both and voila you can use your phone as wireless headset with Skype, gTalk, MSN, Yahoo and many other PC applications.

Update: We’ve just got update from the developers about their Valentine promo. You may win iPod Touch for your Valentine if you send them a screenshot with any 4 icons of their apps.

iPad applications or what we expect from iPad apps

iPad applications or what we expect from iPad apps

First of all congratulations everybody that the wait and hype is finally over. All of us at iPhoneApplicationList.com are very excited about the new device. We see a lot of opinions in the press that it looks like “overgrown giant iPhone” or that there are no new features on the iPad compared to iPhone.

I do not think so! The tremendous difference  is exactly in the screen size, content (movies, newspapers, books) made for big screen and WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT — APPS for big screen! Developers, just think about the opportunity of developing and using new innovative interfaces with huge multi-touch OLED beauty! This is a new platform even if it looks same as iPhone and huge challenge to get your applications right and discover all the new use cases of the device.

Do not get mislead. We are going to see a success of iPad.
