With college graduations just around the corner and an economy that is not as frightful as it once was, you can bet that there will be tons of jobs to look, apply, and compete for. If you happen to be entering the workforce, you want your career to take a different path, or you simply have not found your dream job yet, there are plenty of apps that can help. Here are 5 of the best apps that can help you put your best foot forward and step through the door of opportunity into an industry you love:

5 Apps to Help Land You a Job

Job Search (Free): Powered by Indeed, a search engine that compiles millions of postings from a plethora of company websites and job boards, this app delivers simple, fast-loading job searches, with the most up-to-date postings. Not only do you have access to complete sets of job search results, but your recent searches are always remembered, any new jobs that have been posted since your last search are made available to you, and you can preview, save, and e-mail any openings of interest. Users have given Indeed’s Job Search an average of 3.5 stars, saying that despite the fact that it is missing some elements that the website offers, it is a worthwhile download that has provided good job leads on-the-go.

Jobs Search (Free): Not to be confused with the app above, Jobs Search aggregates millions of postings from all job sources, enabling you to access up to 200 of the top postings for your search (based on job title, keyword, company, and/or location) at one time. When you happen upon something promising, you can easily e-mail it to yourself or your friends straight from the app. This no-frills app is about delivering results and connecting with you the opportunities out there, an approach which has garnered it an average of 3 stars. Users have said that it does need some more capabilities, like sorting through results or accessing post dates, but overall they love it and it has linked them and their friends and coworkers to some great jobs.

Jobs (Free): This app gives you access to the over 2 million jobs posted to the US’s largest job site, CareerBuilder.com. Not only does the app let you search for jobs in a variety of ways, but it also lets you apply to jobs through the app. Furthermore, you can utilize the GPS function to find jobs near you, create, access and sync CareerBuilder accounts through the app, generate and update resumes, receive personalized job recommendations, view your search results on a map, save jobs for later viewing, keep tabs on which jobs you have already viewed (they will be marked “seen”), and e-mail items of intrigue to yourself and/or friends. With an average of 3 stars, Jobs has been chided for issues with geolocations and recommendation updates and for primarily presenting short-term or part-time jobs, but has also been praised for its ability to sync with the website and present all the bells and whistles for job hunting.

Good Job ($4.99): While pricier than the previous apps, Good Job aids you in every step of the job search process, and doesn’t just aim to get you a job in general, but the ideal job for you. It enables you to be as organized as possible in your career hunt by tracking relevant contacts, events, job openings, interviews, and follow-ups. Every step of the process is documented, every piece of information is recorded, and you can track and inspire progress as you do what it takes to reach the top. Furthermore, the app makes it easy to find the best jobs for you by tracking and prioritizing an unlimited number of jobs, keep track of any accounts you create on company or job sites when applying for positions as well as which resumes and cover letters were sent where, save notes on both successful and unsuccessful interviews, and ensure you have all relevant information on hand when going to an interview or networking event. Good jobs has received a good average of 3 stars on the iTunes store. Purchasers have said that it is a bit tedious to update, but as it was recommended by about.com, it does seem to be very stable and well-made.

5 Apps to Help Land You a Job

Audio Job Interview Professional ($0.99): Finally, this is a tool that I found really interesting for once you’ve found a number of positions to apply to but want to add that something extra to your resume package. With Audio Job Interview Professional, you can create up to three unique pre-recorded interviews with corresponding URLs that you can share with potential employers. This way they can get to know you beyond what’s presented on your resume, recommendations, and cover letters, and you can go one step further than other candidates for a memorable first impression. The interviews through the app take about 15 minutes and let you choose which questions it will ask, ensuring that you’re tailoring the presentation to the industry and employer of interest and making every second count. With an average of 4.5 stars, users say that it has really helped expedite the job process, getting them face-to-face interviews and differentiating them from competition quicker than just adhering to traditional protocol. While there are a few glitches that the developers are working hard to sort out, users love how fast and easy it is, as well as how much it helps them stand out in the interview process.

While these are just a few of the job-related apps out there, they should definitely offer some important help in getting started or even continuing the process. While I didn’t include them in this article, there are also plenty of apps intended for specific industries, so if you want to be able to job hunt on-the-go, the App Store is a worthwhile resource to peruse. The ideal job takes work to find, but with all of these apps in hand, the process is certainly made a little easier. With the technology we have available, the perfect job just might find you!
