As one of the hottest finance apps out there, it enables your iPhone (or iPad or iPod Touch) to accept all major credit cards in order to suit your individual or business needs. No contract, monthly fees, or merchant accounts are required in order to use the app — just the Square credit card reader that plugs into your headphone jack (and is sent to you for free in the mail when you register). Once Square is downloaded (again, for free) and you have activated your account, you are fully able to swipe any Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express credit cards and receive payments, simple as that. However, while the services are free to use, the only stipulation is that Square receives 3% of the transaction. However, that is but a minor detail, given the fact that you can accept credit cards anywhere and for any reason. This will make IOUs with friends infinitely easier to settle or avoid, it will open more doors for activities like garage sales, and it will enable you to have more (and more mobile) payment portals at your business. The uses for Square are endless, taking payment possibilities far outside the box.
