WolframAlpha has recently been garnering a lot of attention for being one of the best reference apps around, with its seamless ability to answer any and every question with speed and accuracy. The makers of this powerhouse recently began releasing “Course Assistant” apps as well, focusing on specific topics that are usually the source of much grief. Well, if the power of Wolfram is any indication, these apps not only promise that their users will be prepared to jump in to the material, but ensure that the path is paved for an ace. Here’s a look at the Course Assistants that have been released thus far:Wolfram’s Wonderful New Additions

Wolfram Calculus Course Assistant: Since Wolfram has the leading math software in the world, you know this app was made to kick calculus butt. The Calculus Assistant covers all the material you need to know if you’re taking Calculus, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, Calculus I and Calculus II, and even more importantly helps you solve equations “on the fly” or proceed through step-by-step approaches to even the most difficult problems. While users have criticized the app for its operation via internet and some bugs (that the developers are addressing), it is sure to be a worthy investment for anyone in the throws of the calculus monster.

Wolfram’s Wonderful New Additions

Wolfram Algebra Course Assistant: Like the Calculus assistant, you’re promised accuracy and efficiency due to the nature of the software powering it. The Algebra Assistant prepares you for Algebra I, Algebra II, and College Algebra courses, introducing you to all the relevant material and guiding you through equations so that you can zoom through homework, dominate tests, and maximize your learning. Again, people cite its need for WiFi as a potential hindrance, but overall say it has great functionality and is very helpful!

Wolfram’s Wonderful New Additions

Wolfram Music Theory Course Assistant: Wolfram’s technical capabilities extend far beyond the domain of math, which is clearly demonstrated with this app. This Assistant is ideal for anyone learning an instrument or taking a basic music theory course, and enables its users to hear and view notes on the music staff, choose among hundreds of basic and advanced scales, explore triads and chords, input and hear chord progressions, identify intervals based on name and sound, find interval inversions, and reference musical terms. Reviewers say that this app is best suited for those beginning their endeavors with music and music theory, but I imagine that, especially with future versions, the Music Theory Course Assistant will be handy to musicians of all backgrounds and interest levels.

Please comment if you have used any of these Course Assistants and what your experiences have been with them. Especially as school gets back into full swing, I’m sure many students in these fields are looking for a friendly hand to help them out — who knew that they could find a world class tutor in their own hand? I look forward to seeing what else the Wolfram team will release, and I celebrate the ways they have expanded and made accessible the priceless entities of education and knowledge.
