There is nothing like the feeling of holding a guitar for the first time, its heavy, awkward and all around uncomfortable. The more you practice, the more the instrument becomes an extension of your limbs and you start to wonder how you ever existed without it. This, to me is the best thing about learning an instrument and taking the time to master the craft of the instrument. However, here is an app that allows you to learn how to play the instrument without even holding a guitar.

This could mean a lot for beginners who need that extra push or an extra outlet where they can practice and try to better understand how the instrument functions. As a guitar player, iJam2 is a really fascinating app to me for the following reasons. The interface reminds me of a guitar; they have done everything they can to make it seem like you are actually playing a guitar. However, they make it easy on you, giving you the key, the chord names, the option of using a capo and preset alternate positions for most of the chords. You really don’t have to do a whole lot but can walk away from using the app with the satisfaction that you did something to further your understanding of the instrument. You can learn a lot by setting your own alternate chord positions and by experimenting with placing the capo in different positions. This app is for those who are curious about the guitar, whether you are a beginner who wants to do as much as possible with the guitar during the day when playing an actual guitar would not be possible, or for the more advanced player who wants to play around with the guitar when they also, don’t have the opportunity to play an actual guitar. Its fun, its easy and if in doubt the help they give when you press the icon in the bottom right corner is extremely useful. Two thumbs up to this app, enjoy!
