Eco App of the Week: WasteNotPosted in Lifestyle on 15 Mar 2010 |
Written by Allison Wahl |

WasteNot takes the concept of planting seeds of knowledge to the eco-friendly sphere. In essence, this app allows you to find and share ideas for how to reduce your waste and negative impacts on the environment and to also see how big of a difference these ideas will make. These ideas are referred to as “seeds” in the app, so you can either Browse Seeds to see what recommendations already exist, Plant Seeds to impart your own green knowledge, and Water Seeds to show that you are actively taking part in an eco-friendly activity. Every seed you’re watering is recorded in the app so you can constantly track the difference you’re making for the planet and you can also see interactive maps that display what seeds are being watered where and how much of an impact WasteNot users are having. Furthermore, if people water seeds that you have planted, it’s recorded in MyGarden, which logs how much you’re saving given all your actions within the app.
I think the app takes a simple idea a very long way and enables a web of information to spread around the global iPhone community about how to love and care for our environment. It’s a great tool to have not only to actively see your personal impact and everyone else’s, but also to learn about simple environmental initiatives and take part in an amazing cause. Also, please note that for a limited time WasteNot is FREE, so there is no better time to start living green than now.
