The iPad has some amazing apps for those who are artistically inclined, there are none quite like Swakker Doodle. While Swakker Doodle may not be the most advanced art app out there, it is certainly the most fun, and takes drawing to a more social realm.
Swakker Doodle does not offer much in the way of tools, but it doesn’t need to. You can select your pen size and colors (which, by the way, have the most exciting names I’ve seen yet), opt for various background (including everything from solid colors to photos saved on your device), and insert cute stamps. In this case, simplicity is both refreshing and fun; you’re neither overwhelmed nor bored by what you have to work with.
However, the art capabilities are not really what I’m here to talk about. The best part of Swakker Doodle is the element of collaboration. If you join the Swakker Doodle community, you can go online and connect with other doodlers, either by chatting or by drawing with them, and by sending messages or pictures to each others’ inboxes. You can also link up to the “Swakker Cafe” to learn about relevant news and events and share your creations on email and Facebook. However, if you’re not feeling particularly social, you can always opt to just draw freely without taking advantage of the Swakker community.
Maybe this app is not necessarily for serious artists, but for those who love to doodle and schmooze and have a less intense approach to art, Swakker Doodle is ideal. I did have some minor issues with the app spontaneously freezing or quitting, but they were not frequent or serious enough to ruin my experience. The iPad becomes a canvas for fun, silly, and creative expressions — both in a social and artisitic sense. Swakker Doodle gives a whole new meaning to showing what you mean, and allows you to make some connections in your artistic process.
