Bad Apple |

The App Store is a wondrous place where you can find applications for nearly everything. One of the best features of the App Store is the customer ratings and reviews because they enable you to see what users find noteworthy, what is a waste of space, and what is worth investing in. However, some developers take advantage of this system to promote their product through biased reviews of their products. Even if their app is not so hot, they write raving reviews and hire PR agencies to give glowing accolades that are inaccurate and misguiding at best. And to worsen the situation, some developers even give intentionally bad reviews to competition apps to deter consumers from investing in them. This is an issue that needs to be addressed. Since there is such a huge volume of apps in the App Store (over 200,000 and growing by the second), it is important for people to know how to navigate through it, understand which apps actually contain the quality they claim, and be able to accurately decide which apps are best for them. People need to be able to rely on app feedback for guidance, and while it should not have to come to this, they should also be aware of the existence of faulty reviews so that they can recognize which statements are valid and which are not. Furthermore, if Apple wants to continue to be revered among its customers, they should find a way to prevent biased reviews and punish developers who excessively rely on them (e.g. by banning their apps). Finally, developers, if you want people to buy your product, good marketing is essential, but a good product is crucial. Put more money and effort into making a quality app and establishing rapport among your buyers and you won’t need to resort to conniving tactics. Let the product speak for itself.
