Reading large files on the iPhone is a struggle. GoodReader is a file reading app designed to make viewing such files easier. Using its own file reading engine in addition to the default engine programmed into the iPhone, it gives users the ability to open large PDF and text files, high resolution photos, audio and video files, and other types of data-heavy files. This app also allows for file transfers between your iPhone and your computer or the internet if you’re connected to a network. Once you have your documents uploaded, you can choose from a long list of functions including, but not limited to, zipping your files, emailing a document, and marking a document as unread.
Using its own file viewing engine in conjunction with the default engine helps viewers open their files quickly. To help users around its functions, the app comes with a simple-to-navigate manual with an introduction to the app and How-To section addressing FAQs. The downside to this app is that, as its creators admit on the introduction page in the user’s guide, the app has known limitations in the kinds of files it can open. Certain file types like JPEG2000 are not supported by GoodReader and it sometimes has issues reading Microsoft Office files. Nonetheless, this app is very practical and is a good investment for those who need fast access to important documents.
