So you’ve taken a snap on your iPhone and you’re reasonably happy with it. But it’s a little too dark, or too washed out – what’s needed is a little adjustment before you show it to the world, yet you can’t wait until you get back to your PC or Mac. One possibility is Pixel Perfect, offering ‘Brightness’, ‘Saturation’ and ‘Hue’ adjustments, in addition to fixed ‘Black and White’, ‘Sepia’ and ‘Invert’ presets. Once adjusted, you get to upload your photo – but only to your Facebook account.

Yup, that’s right, there’s no local (i.e. on your iPhone) save facility, Pixel Perfect is crippled right from the outset by only supporting uploads to Facebook. It’s easy enough to login from within the application so that the right authorisations are in place for the uploads, but there’s more to life than Facebook, especially in the world of photo sharing, surely?

The effects themselves are also a little underwhelming, with no distortions, scaling, blurring or sharpness, for example. We’re talking simple pixel colour manipulation – as per the application’s title, to be fair, but it’s easy to be disappointed. Effects are selected from a neat sliding toolbar and the depth of each effect is applied (if needed) using an on-screen slider.

Unfortunately, here too there’s disappointment, since there’s a time lag between the slider appearing and it responding to touch, resulting in several seconds of annoyed tapping and dragging from the user before anything happens. The iPhone is powerful enough for better response than this – lots more optimisation is needed by the developers before Pixel Perfect is ready for the prime time.

If you’re a Facebook addict then this is a welcome tool in your iPhone toolkit, otherwise you can safely give this one a miss or wait for an updated version.
