I too was angry when the MyRail lite app was rendered unusable by Network Rail refusing to allow access to the data. If you don’t need access to train info from your iPhone then sure, make a stand for FOSS and don’t but the Network Rail app for £4.99. I’m a rail commuter so I don’t really have much choice. Also I’m not entirely sure that the train time info is strictly speaking public data, the entire rail system was put (back) into private hands some years ago.

I’m not a great train traveller, so when I do go by train I want it to be as simple as possible. I have used ‘UK Train Times’ iPhone app from http://themacbox.co.uk
MyTrain Lite seems to give some information ‘UK Train Times’ didn’t, though I found it good to plan my journey. So the two could work good together possibly? Well looks like I won’t find out!
Now to add fuel to the fire I can’t see ‘UK Train Times’ either in the app store any more! So what is going on here? Is Network Rail looking to command a monopoly? I agree with the suggest not to buy Network Rail app! I also urge Apple to reconsider their position with Network Rail whether they want to support this type of business practice.

Used this app almost every day… their licence revoked because Network Rail realised they could rake in some money – not a nominal amount – £4.99 for the same thing…. DO NOT BUY if you have any decency towards pioneer’s of FREE apps!!!

Yes…it’s a shame that for public information such as rail timings you have to pay 5 pounds..i like this app a lot..i wish they get the license to the data feed from rail network…hate capitalists!! hate bankers!!

Disgusting. Someone innovates a lovely app, then NR cut them out and launch their own (I hear inferior) version for £5, which aint cheap for an application. Let’s not forget that rail transport in this country is some of the most expensive in the world already. Shame, shame, shame on you National Railways, for charging for information that should be freely available!

I won’t be buying, and encourage EVERYONE ELSE not to subscribe.

This was by far my most used app. It was essential as my station is unmanned with no live train progress boards. I now have to pay £5 to find out if my train is coming?

Agree with the posts this is the most useful app I own – I use it all the time – disgusting that they have cut it MyRail’s access and then launch their own variant for a £5 !!!

National Rail have launched their own version and want to charge a 5er for it! Interesting that this launch coincides with MyRail not getting their license renewed for the real time info.

A Damn shame, myRail is a great app and will be missed.

Seriously, this is a blow. I am still using MyRail daily and will miss it a great deal when it stops being updated. Does anyone know if there is any similar facility available?

I’ve had this app since around oct 08 until Monday this week when I had to get a new iPhone from the Apple store because my old one wasn’t working properly and when I searched on the app store, I couldn’t find it, so I checked online and I found this website. I’m SO gutted that it’s been removed. It really was the best app ever, it made my life so much easier because I travel across the country regularly. All the other train apps now just don’t seem to compare. A trully innovative and excellent application. I hope it will return soon.

If you have already got the app, it continues to work fine – you just cannot buy it any more. I used it only this morning, and very handy it was too.
