This is nothing less than a giant leap for Apple. I'm actually a little bewildered by this. I never wanted to go with Apple for other reasons I'm not willing to go into right now, but this just goes to prove how much Apple really does care about its customers. I mean really, you nag and complain in a couple letters about something YOU bought when it was brand new that was clearly under priced, which equates to overpriced for the moderately technologically uninclined individual - even though this is happening with technology every second of every day - and you get a huge $100 discount. Great job Apple, I applaud you.

Well, how about the ipod touch? What about $50 back since it's 1/2 the price of the phone? hehe. I love the touch... altho... wish it came with chat :-)

I agree 100% with Charles Wall's comment. Remember, even though this is a highly functional device, it's still a phone. EVERY phone manufacturer's offerings come down in price with time. The iPhone was a great deal at $599, and now at $399, it's a steal. I think Apple should be thanked for supporting their early adopters so well. As mentioned in another post, the early Razr's were $500. Now you can find them for free, with contract. Has Motorola been handing out gift cards all this time? I haven't heard of it!

In addition to my previous comments, has anyone noticed that Apple is selling refurbished iPhones for 350 bucks.

Jobs deserves the Stealing Defeat from the Jaws of Victory award for this one.

$100 is insufficient and irrelevant. The iPhone was finally starting to get Apple noticed by the part of corporate US that has been traditionally Windows-centric. The price cut demonstrated that Apple business policies are less stable than Microsoft business policies. Stability, security, and dependability of service are the key features large corporations want to see in their business partners. The price cuts do not demonstrate these qualities, and a token rebate is irrelevant.

Yeah...I am getting screwed by AT&T as I had my iphone 2 days over the 14 days and they would not exchange my 4G for an 8G...one of those days was labor day...total corporate screw job...AT&T should allow anyone who bought within the last 30 days of the price reduction announcement to exchange for better model.

Thanks Steve Jobs! I appreciate the $100 gift and yes I think it is a gift. One think critics don't get you can't compare apples to oranges (anything else) because mac always has the big picture. My iphone completes the package - its syncs with my imac, it's versatile beyond any phone. What other phone can you upgradxe software like this? This phone will be upgradeable for years. If you already own an imac, you will figure this phone out in 1 minute. For those critics I say, Get an (i)Life.

I agree with Charles Wall. The RAZR's were $500 when they came out a couple years ago! And they were nothing compared to the iphone. Treo's are close, too, and I hated mine. I LOVE my iphone and appreciate the credit. It was worth every penny - especially with websites like this with cool apps!!

Thanks, Steve - I was a bit pissed when I heard about the price drop, especially 'cause my wife predicted it and has been berating me ever since I bought this thing. Of course, I wish it was more (I don't think either you or Apple are hurting for cash!), but I'm thankful for what I can get!

I ain't saying thank you since I should be getting $200 back and that should be a check, not some "store credit" that makes you buy more Apple product.

Steve:

I'm sure you've heard that in sports, "every play makes somebody happy." Well, as a business manager, I can tell you, every decision makes some group happy (and another group not so...).

Thanks for deciding to take care of those who supported the iPhone in the early days; however, I have to tell you that anyone who does not see $600 of value in the iPhone is either a poor judge of value or a cheapskate -- You can keep my $100 credit! Thanks for allowing me to have my dream phone for a mere $600.

Also -- Thanks for putting my kids through college (on Apple stock) -- that saved me "way more" than $200.

I have been a practicing/purchasing Apple fan for many many years, and I would say this is the best PR from Apple in awhile. I still wander if this wasn't planned from the beginning. I find it hard to believe that Apple wasn't prepared for the back lash of the price increase.

As I have purchased 3 iPhones for my family, I never regret being first in having the latest technology. I am pleased with these devices and hope that continuous improvemnt in software comes as quickly as the fall in price. Even with the intro of the iPod Touch, WiFi is not as available as most might think and having AT&T service has its value. Get us the detals on the credit so we can go to an Apple store and continue supporting what I beleive is the best computer systems out there

thanks???

did someone say thanks?

very poor business decision on jobs part, especially for shareholders...no question.

he created a problem that will haunt him and Apple
for sometime to come.

he has shown complete disregard for his hardcore followers, and new potential converts.

a 100 dollar 'store credit' is only adding insult to injury.
