Pretty cool! Actually amazing!

Realley nice, simple and clean, i love the thinking bar on the top.
Downsides are-
-Lagg when moveing pieces in ‘drag’ mode
-You should not have to type choosing ‘drag’ or ‘click’.

Commented on this on another iphone application list - has bugs in piece movement that can blow up game, hopefully author will soon fix. And AI is only bright enough for a speed game, but then, I’ve never written a chess AI, so I suppose I shouldn’t whinge too much.
We have done some basic testing on a number of browsers on different Macs and PCs.
A quick summary for the time (in seconds) it takes the browser to respond to D2D4 on level 10 which involves a 5-ply search (which is far below the 10 ply which is typical for most chess engines written for the desktop, ie non-browser, these days)
Nemo, can you tell me events that cause it to blow up?
Brett en passant will be resolved in next couple days.
John, ability to play an opponent can be seen http://labs.morfk.com. We wll be moving some of the features to iChess.

Hi,
How do you download this chess game? i can figure it out at all HELP!!!
Thanks!!
nemo on July 1st, 2007 at 12:08 pm
two castles on 3rd rank had my king trapped between them (wasn’t really trying that hard). I should only have been able to move downwards. Instead I was offered option to jump over the castle files either to left or right as well.
I moved to left.
At that point, game halted and no more moves could be made.

how are you supposed to use the drag and drop interface on the iphone?
any finger drags on screen will be interpreted as scrolling down the page…
Tay the game runs in your browser, i.e. you do not download it to your desktop if that is what you are asking.
nemo thanks for the added info we will look into it.
Chubby there is little information currently available on the drag and drop interface. We, among many others, are working to understand how to best drive it…if you find any information anywhere please let us know.

Promoting a pawn causes pawn to disappear!
John on July 6th, 2007 at 5:24 pm
I’ve played a couple games and in each one I made a deciding move (gained territory, pieces, etc.) and the app refused to make it’s move. i.e. Once it was clear the computer would lose it wouldn’t respond and a new game would have to be started…
Hi, we have introduced some bugs as we tried to optimise for the iPhone We should have a new release out tomorrow which permits greater depth of search…would love your feedback.

new version looks cool, but my first game I captured the queen and the app called stalemate. Strange since only two pawns had been captured and all pieces on the board had available moves. I’ve played the new version and the old and have yet to complete a game because of bugs

keep running into the same bug: knights put my king into check when they are not in correct position. Usually they are four spaces away from king in the same row or column. Also, in some cases I when I’ve checked the compy with my knight it ignores the check and keeps playing as if nothing happened.
Albi on August 26th, 2007 at 6:45 am
In response to Brett, the game has moved en passant against me while I’m unable to move against it.

same problem as Albi - knights love to do chess when four spaces away. And ignore chess from my knight, especially when it is ‘forking’ a rock and the kind - normally the rock moves away. You can even take the kind and it will try to make another move (usually with lots of ‘java timeout errors’…)

this game is awful. The flaws in recognizing check, and valid pawn attacks ruin almost every round I play. It appears to have not been tested by anyone who knows anything about chess. Totally unprofessional. The author should be embarresed.

I love this game, it’s gotten me into playing chess. But the knights and en passant bugs are killing me! I’d love them to get fixed, but I thank you for the game nonetheless!

Cool online chess game.. bug lots of developpement left to do.. I took the marble set, started the game, and in the same match I’ve had these problems:
I’ve mat the computer twice, and didn’t count. It didn’t even say it was check ! Earlier, the computer said I was “check”.. by its knight, and it was totally wrong. It was 3 squares higher than my king!?! I checked its king with a rook, protected by my knight, and its king took my rook!?! wtf! And the “en passant capture” did not work.
I don’t know if it was only one bug, that screwed up the pieces coordonates and then all the match was ‘wrong for nothing’ or wut (may be caused by drag & drop mode), but this game is still a cool link to have on your ipod touch as well

Nice application. However, the kings should not be allowed to castle when in check.

Needs to add capturing en passant, but otherwise not bad.
An option to just play an opponent that not a computer? Have the iPhone act an actual board so you can play vs. a friend?
Nemo, can you tell me events that cause it to blow up?
